    Spam from a member

I have just been forwarded an email from TQS which is not quilt related and is a member begging for money. Who do I contact to have the member cease using the forum for this sort of email?

Wow, I've never had that happen! I would go to "HELP" and to "Contact Us" and let them know. Hopefully, they'll disable that user's account.

I would notify the member, but then you might not be able to do that if your only means of contact is email. I have a feeling her email account was hacked and that she/he may have nothing to do with the spam. I once got an email from my cousin telling me that he had been mugged in London and that he needed money. I believed it for about a minute. His account had been hacked. I had his home phone number and when he answered I definitely knew he was not stranded in London.

I suppose your best bet is to notify TQS technical support and let them work it out. I hope you let us know what happens.

I agree, contact tech support as soon as possible. I saw a new topic on here a while back and it was simply advertising, although couched in 'forum -ese". I contacted the help team, and they wrote back to confirm that it was entirely inappropriate and had been deallt with. It is possible that someone's email has been compromised, but unless they had been in your contacts, I'm not sure about how that can happen. I would suggest not to respond.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions on how to handle this. I have sent an email off to TQS alerting them to the problem and hopefully no one else will receive this type of email.

My email was hacked a year or so ago, and spam was sent to everyone in my e mail addresses- it was awful! Some TQS members got e mails from that. I cleaned things up and haven't had a re-occurrence- just saying that it can happen without the person's knowledge.

Just to let you all know that the member's account has been cancelled as they were not a genuine quilter and were using the forum for spamming purposes.

Thank you very much for taking action. That is helping all members.

These type of messages are nasty. If they are sent to 10.000 people and only one reponds, then they have achieved what they set out to do.

I've noticed that usually these emails have no Subject, so I have an email rule to not download messages from the server if the subject line is blank. If you happen to miss a legitimate email message, the sender would likely notify you if it was important.
