    New category suggestion

Since there are so many of us using this site, would it make sense to add a category for people looking for specific fabric that they can't seem to find anywhere else? I know about missingfabrics.com but this site seems so much more personal. People could post a picture of what they're seeking; who knows what stash out there is hiding just that very fabric.
Any arrangements for buying/swapping fabrics would be between the individuals.

If you're seeking specific fabric, just google it!! Put everything you know about the fabric in your search; either very specific, such as the manufacturer's number, or be as vague as you need to be, like "light blue RJR". You are likely to find what you're looking for, and then you can choose the store with the best price! To simply describe it to people online will get you nowhere, unless you can possibly scan it if you have a piece. There, I've said MY piece! Try it.

Paula, I tried that some time ago, and the only source I managed to locate via a very lengthy and extensive search would have cost me in excess of $60. But when I told my quilting mates, someone had the fabric in their stash, didn't really now what to do with it, and so we swapped: I got the fabric and my friend got tea and chocolates from the UK. We are both very happy!

So, asking friends to help can often bring great results.

I've used missingfabrics.com successfully before. The difference in using a search like that, or what Robin's suggested here, vs. shopping, is that you can find older fabrics which the stores no longer carry-- and it's not just bits & pieces, I got 5 yards once!

I think that's a great idea for a new category, Robin. Sometimes you need more of a particular fabric but all the information from the selvage is long gone. Yes, not everyone has a scanner but many of us have digital cameras or a friend with one.

Many times over the years, I've found fabric in my stash to help out others. TQS is such a friendly place, I love this idea!
