    Machine quilting a mariner's compass

I appliqued an oval 32 point Mariner's Compass medallion in the center of a stack the deck background and added borders. I love the effect but am now to the machine quilting phase and realize that I'm not sure how I am going to quilt the compass part. Just in the ditch?

Anyone have any ideas? Tips? When I get done, I'll post a photo. It really did come out great. I just have this TEENSY, WEENSY little bit of the quilt to finish...

I haven't quilted one of these yet either, but yes, I think in-the-ditch is probably the best way to show off the compass. And after all the work you did to get all those lovely points, of course you should show off the compass!

I'm posting this picture to show youhowI machine quilted my lastest Mariner's compass quilt. Instead of stitching in the ditch, I stitched another row of "spikes" . It's a bit blurry as I enlared the picture. You can still see the quilting lines I drew on the quilt

Paegan, that is so BEAUTIFUL!....I have never pieced one of those, but want to someday. I love the extra spikes of quilting between the pieced ones, and also the echoing of the triangles in the borders. You should be so proud. Dana

Thanks, Dana. I had a lot of fun doing this one. Paper piecing is great. I cn make many blocks that I would neer have attempted before.
