    LCD screen

I have a bernina 640. A while ago, I noticed that there was a line through the LCD screen. The machine still worked fine. I have another machine so I am not using this one all the time. I went to use it the other day and it wouldn't turn on. I took it to my dealer to get it fixed. It needs a new power supply. The power supply is $155 and the LCD is $360. Labor is another $190. If I just do the power supply, labor will be around $150. If I wait and do the LCD later, the labor will probably be another $150 . So my question is: Has anyone had an LCD screen go out on them? If you did, how long from the beginning until you really had to replace it? Money is kinda tight right now but if it looks like the LCD won't last long, I'd rather combine the labor costs. Thanks for your input.

    Hi Frances,
Good to see you again. We have missed you.

I have a Bernina 730 that started smoking last spring. (I wrote about this in the virtual retreat). The screen was fine. It finally quit altogether and I took it in. It took 2 months for a new power board to be installed. Evidently Bernina is slow on shipping new parts. The price for the new power supply sounds about right. My total bill was around $350 but that included a cleaning.

    Hope this helps.

The Artista machines are old now and all boards Bernina replaces are reconditioned so you never know when it goes pop again. Warranty on the replacements vary from country to country, Have you considered to make do with your other machine for a while and save up for a new machine? Once you invest $700 you are kind of stuck to keep repairing aren't you? I've decided not to repair my 730 next time something goes wrong and instead add to my piggy bank the price of the repair. I know from the past the to keep pouring money into a nearly 20 year old computerised machine is an ever deepening hole. I have another machine too so will not be without one when the 730 turns bobbin up and goes to recycling Just something to consider
