Thanks Renata. I am just off for 2 weeks quilting at Quilting By the Lake (QBL) in Syracuse NY. I am taking my 450 with me but will ask the great tech my next best steps. If I need to I will take it into the shop when I return home. Next time I will be less enthusiastic. I will also let you know what advice I am given & if it works.

I tried the nifty little tool, some of the thread came out, I need to remove the case that holds the bobbin. Anyone know how to do this?

I would not do that! The case is driven by electronics and you don't have the equipment to calibrate it back. You would be better served taking the machine to your technician. You might even void your warranty if you tried to dismantle any inner workings of your 830.
