I have an Artista 200E which is an absolutely fabulous machine. If you are looking for a used machine this would be a great one to have. This is one machine I won't ever part with no matter how many machines I might have in my future.

I *highly* recommend the 630 (or 635-which is a special edition with a decorative face and a few different/extra embroidery designs). Like your 1230, it has a 5.5mm stitch width, so I think you'll find the sewing feel to be very similar. However, you should consider keeping the 1230 as a backup. It's soooo common to read someone lamenting that they sold or traded their older Bernina.

If you keep the 1230, you might try a 9mm machine like the 640 or 730. They offer wide decorative stitches, auto thread cutting, and low bobbin alerts. Some people (myself included) prefer the 5.5mm machines for narrow seams and hems, some find the 9mm machines work just fine for all their sewing. If you keep your 1230, it won't matter how that turns out for you

The new 7 series is coming out, and the 710 and 750 might be not much more than the Artistas. They have a new bobbin system and built-in dual feed (like IDT on Pfaffs). They are all 9mm stitch width machines.

I'd wait and try the 7 series and Artistas. If you find your 1230 sitting unused for a long time, you can always sell it later. Good luck!

I have the 200E Artista and I love it. I am considering the new 7 series, but even if I do buy one of the 7s, I will keep the Artista.

I have the 640 and have been very happy with it. I chose it over the 630 for the thread cutter.

thank you guys for all the answers/support. after all i need it, i still dont know what kind of Artista i will have. it will be second hand (this is the 4th upgrade for me and all of them Bernina and 2nd hand). it is huge step for me (financely) so i wanted to be extra sure. yesterday i trade my 1230 back to the dealer, still dont have the new one because he need to change the menu and every thing else to english from Dutch (as well extra box that i can contact to my comuter via the USB port). i cant wait, i can tell you that, i am so exited that i didnt sleep good last night but i am sure it worth it
              thank you all

I realized I didn't say, that I can't imagine letting go of my 630. I bought it used, and it's my favorite of very many vintage and modern machines. The 820 is a CLOSE 2nd, but the 630 is just so easy and intuitive, just "sit and sew".

'Artista' ist the name of a range of machines. '630' is a specific model within that range.

The 630, 635, 640, and 730 are Artistas. There were several Activa lines, the latest being 220, 230, 240. The Auroras were the 430, 440, and 435/450. Now the models just have numbers. Many current model numbers were famous vintage models, to add to the confusion.

well, the Artista is at home, it is 180.
starting to get use to it, still didnt do any embroidery...need some time to adjust.
thanks for all the information, so i know what to aim for in the next upgrading.
