Okay, certainly not the best suggestion you're going to get, but you brought back a fond memory . . .
When I first started quilting in the 90's, my MIL generously gave me her old sewing machine. It was a Singer behemoth, green metal, in a cabinet. The first thing to die was the bobbin-winding capacity, and it couldn't be fixed (again). Rather than have me hand-wind bobbins (there was no such thing as a Sidewinder in those days), husband got out his electric screwdriver. He put the bobbin on top of the screwdriver & held the thread in the other hand, feeding it gently & trying to distribute the thread evenly over the bobbin. He did that for several years, until we could afford a new machine. Such a patient, supportive husband! Thanks for the fond memory! Kathy B.

Does the 1/2 speed button work on the winder???

        Hi there,

If you slide the sewing speed thingy (technical term ) to the left, it slows down the bobbin winding speed too.

        Hope this helps!

          Yeaaaaaaaa Beth!
The "speed thingy" moved to the left DOES slow down the bobbin winding!

          Thanks so very very much!

Thanks Beth--another thing I didn't know about the machine.
