    Another new 830 owner

I brought mine home yesterday, I'm so excited! I traded my 730 in on it, and kept my 630.

    Have you "Tinkled" today?

Without giving any financial secrets what is the price range of the 830? I am curious I thought of buying one but the place was such a zoo... (HUGE SALE going on for fabrics.) I opted not to ... that day. I heard the machine was very expensive but I am just wondering.

    Thanks

I talked to a US friend about this a couple of weeks ago. She was frustrated that wherever she looked for a price for the 830 it said: 'Come and talk to us'. But my friend doesn't give up easily. Apparently the 830 retails at around $12000. She was also told that dealers are making 30% profit on this machine. So there should be quite a lot of room for negotiations.

So, Anna, when are you getting yours??

As far as I know (before anybody asks), this machine is still not available in Europe.

CJ, it's pretty. So is your studio.
The 830 is around $12,000. I don't know about markup though.

Congratulations on your new baby!!! Enjoy and show us what you make.

My dealer said they were told they can't sell them for under $12,000. Maybe they can give you a good trade-in price.

They can sell it for as low as $9999.

I hope this machine proves to be as wonderful as my 630, which I absolutely adore. I'll be doing lots of mini reviews on my blog as I try the new features out.

I am not planning to buy a 830.... I just bought the 440QE that is fancy enough for me. I am just a hobby sewer not a professional. Next will be a sewing table and then the embroidery modal. I have bought my last sewing machine...

MY Janome My Home sewing machine lasted me 22 years... this one had better do the same.

Actually, that's not much of a markup. The usual markup in retail is 100 percent, for a profit of 50 percent. If dealers are only making 30 percent on this machine, they're not making much at all.

LOVE your sewing room! I just brought mine home on Friday Looks like you got the table. How do you like it? I was able to set it on top of my Koala Outback, and it is so big it sits on either side of the opening of the lift. Not sure if I like this or not, and have 90 days to get the table at 20% off. My Jumbo hoop isn't in yet either. Can't wait for that. I'll post pictures later after the camera battery charges.

Stef observed that it looks like you got the table too, Tinkle. Does the machine drop down into it to create a flat surface for quilting?

Yes I got the table, and yes it does drop down for flush sewing, but my insert for that is not in yet (2 weeks probably). Fortunately with this machine, you can leave the snap on sewing table in place WITH the embroidery module on... really cool!

Stef, congrats on yours! I'm having a blast learning about it.

CJ, congratulations on your new machine, how exciting! What are you hoping it will give you over the 630, apart from size? I've had my 630 for about 18 months and LOVE it!! Do you have the embroidery module for yours? That would be my next purchase if I was investing in machines. I don't think the 830 is available in the UK yet and I'm not sure I do enough sewing to justify it. I don't think I've got enough space in the house either

The embroidery module is not optional on the 830, it comes with it, period. The 820 will not come with it and can't be added, but it's also missing some features of the 830.

While the larger hoops size was a definite draw for me, I wanted the sewing features of this machine that my 630 doesn't have (nor did the 730 I traded for it).

                              1. Dual feed
                              2. The ability to send any stitch (or combination of stitches) in the machine to the embroidery module
                              3. Stitch editing on screen (this is beyond cool!) and stitch tapering.
                              4. The new buttonholes. Fabulous! You can now adjust both the bead of the buttonhole and the cut opening!
                              5. The "hover" feature of the presser foot. To die for.
