    Problem with 440QE

My 440 QE recently just stopped sewing and the numbers from the screen disappeared--not the light (so I know it is not the electrical plug) I had to turn it off and back on to continue sewing and it just kept on doing it. I took it in to the dealers and they replaced the mother board and said FIXED!

However, today it started the same thing after sewing on it for maybe an hour. It seems it starts doing it after it gets warmed up. Then it is constantly stopping and I have to turn back on. Anyone else had this problem and if so, what was the solution. My dealer is quite a distance from my home and I have to have it fixed so I can sew, sew, sew!!

    Thanks--Judy

    Hi Judy,

I had a similar problem and took mine in since it was also due for it's annual tune-up. The tech said it was a software problem. I just got it back so haven't used it enough to know if there will be any more problems. I hope to have time to do a lot of sewing next week so I'll be able to tell if it's fixed.

Let me know if it works o.k. I will have to take mine back and it is a long trip!

      Thanks!

My 440 QEE is in the shop right now for the same problem. It happened 1 day after the years warranty ended. I was told by Bernina it was the L panel. Which I assume is the circuit board. I posted about this on one of the bernina groups I belong to and a lady said she had the same thing happen twice so she traded her 440 for the 630. I am very disappointed as this is my first Bernina. I have had Pfaff and Janome machines with not problems.

I told my tech that you mentioned the L board and he said that was the power supply???? He is going to call Bernina and find out more before I make the journey back again!!

Judy, I was at my Bernina shop today for a class and talked to them about the problem with the 440's. When mine was repaired, out tech said he did some software calibrations. They said there are updates to the machines and the BSR as problems arise so suggested that your tech contact Bernina. I purchased my 440QE in August 2005 and have not had any trouble until this. There was no extra charge for this correction, only the cost of the annual maintenance service. The first two years were free with purchase of machine.

            Good luck.

Thanks for your reply--when I had my annual maintenance just three weeks ago, the tech said he "updated my machine" and that the BSR was o.k. Don't know if something happened at that time? It is so disappointing since I have projects to finish and I never had a problem with my 153.

I will relay all my info to him so he can hopefully have an answer soon. He did say he would call Bernina then call me back. Still waiting--

Debra, your machines parts are under warranty for 5 years, not just 1! You'll have to pay for labor, but the replacement parts will not cost you.

                Have you "Tinkled" today?

I took my machine back to my tech and he replaced the L board. So far, I sewed several hours yesterday and it sewed like a dream--even better than before I think! So, hopefully, problem solved.

Have the same problem with my Lprint going out,but the dilemma is that Bernina will not sell to anyone but a Bernina Dealer and the nearest dealer/repair is now over 50miles away. Our dealer just closed her business. I guess I should feel better about this cause I didn't just purchase an 880 from her. How will they get lessons or repair work done?

The closest dealer to me is at least 50 miles away, too. The one I actually bought my machine from was about 150 miles from my home. We had to make a day trip--twice!! Since it was under warranty and I bought it from this particular dealer, a closer dealer wouldn't work on it. However, I have not had any more problems with my machine and I love the 440 QE.
