New Feet / Accessories to me!
Today, I purchased a lot of Bernina feet and accessories from a lady on Craig's list who doesn't own her 640 any more.
I got:
20 bobbins
10C foot
37 foot (is really for a 5 mm machine I understand)
34C foot (called a reverse foot and not sure what to use it for yet)
Straight stitch plate
An embroidery bobbin case (has a black screw but no little tail piglet)
Walking foot (but missing the right side "L" arm used to stitch the same distance consistently)
Questions for those of you that already have these items:
* What do you use the 34C foot for?
* Can I use the embroidery bobbin case for bobbin work or is it to be used expressly for embroidery only? It would be nice to have a bobbin case that I can fiddle with the tension.
* If you have a walking foot, would you please attach it and tell me what it looks like when you have the presser foot down. Does it sit exactly flat on the sole plate along the whole bottom of the foot?Tags: None

The 37 is a good all-purpose foot - the red marking lines and the clear plastic make it really easy to sew with accuracy. The "C" only means that it is the on for the 9mm machines.
The walking foot really needs the arm on the right side to work properly. The foot lays flat on the machine bed when attached correctly. The Bernina site has a short video clip on both of these feet on the web site. The one on the walking foot has a good view of how the foot should be attached and what it looks like in motion. JoJo, did you by chance get a book called Bernina accessories when you got your machine? I got it with my 730. I use it all the time to see what each foot is for.
The 34 says it is ensures a good view of the stitching and needle area and it is used for forward & reverse utility & decorative stitching. The C has something to do with the sensor eye. Does your 640 have that? My 730 does.
The 37 is the patchwork foot and is for any machine. That is what I use when I am piecing. I also have a 57 foot for piecing that has a guide on the side, but really bought it for when I'm teaching my granddaughters how to quilt. I always use the straight stitch plate when I am piecing on my 730, because it is a 9mm machine and the opening is bigger. When I piece on my 170QE, I just leave the regular stitch plate on and don't have any problem.
I didn't put my walking foot on, but I have to tell you that I have used it many times and have never put the that side guide thing on it and it works just fine. I usually use the walking foot when I sew on binding because the layers are so thick and also sometimes use it for quilting if I'm doing something like stitch in the ditch.
I'm not sure about your bobbin question. I did buy a separate bobbin for bobbin work and it looks just like my regular bobbin. My embroidery machine bobbin has a little spring in it. But that could be different on the 730 than on the 640.
I really want to buy the Bernina Feetures books, but they are sooooo expensive. Maybe someday.
Hope this helps. Sherry

I use the Bernina 34C and 10C all the time. The 10C is the edge stitching foot and the C means "coded". The glass lense allows your machine to stitch at a full 9MM stitch width. Any foot that does not have the lens will only allow you to stitch at a maximim 5.5 MM stitch width. If you take the coded foot off the machine, you will see the max SW will read 5.5, put it back on and your SW area will read all the way to 9MM.
I use the 34C in place of my #1 foot as I use it for all my general sewing. I like being able to see the fabric underneath the foot and the extra markings, which make mirror imaging stitches and lining up things really easy. It won't be good for satin stitching as there is no groove underneath the foot.
As far as the bobbin case goes, you could use the extra bobbin case for "bobbin work" with heavy wt threads but make sure you have the embroidery bobbin with the pigtail before you start working with it. You could just adjust the tension for embroidery and let it be your embroidery bobbin if you have the emb. module. If you don;t have embroidery, the Digibob design show would be a great first project.
Have fun with your new accessories.
