Hi Anne,
The machine and frame were $12K and since I have a business license I didn't have to pay tax, so I bought a bunch of presser feet for the 730. My dealer said if I wanted to exchange them for some of the new 830 feet for use with the dual feed I can do that when the machine comes in. The frame should be in sometime in September, but the machine won't be delivered until after the dealer attends Bernina training in November.
The footprint of the machine with the embroidery unit attached is 40 inches! The bed of the machine is 15" and the distance from the needle to the right arm is 12". The machine is also taller so there is more vertical room too.
Some dealers have free CDs with a virtual 830 so you can play with the features. It also has the full instruction manual so can read through all it will do.
I've used the 730 for about an hour and I really love it. If this is any indication of things to come I'm very pleased with my decision. I just talked to the owner of the quilt shop where I teach and she thinks I definitely made the right choice based on the type of sewing I do and my circumstances. It helps to have encouragement when you spend this kind of money! Believe me, you second guess yourself a lot in the middle of the night, but by the light of day I'm all smiles.
Have a great weekend!

How long is the frame? I'm a bit frustrated by the lack of specs on the official site.
Do you know how deep the machine is from front to back?

Darlene how exciting for you! You sound like a perfect customer for this machine being a teacher and pro quilter. It must be hard to make the decision and purchase but have to wait so long for it's arrival. Hope the time goes by quickly,

Hi!
The quilt frame goes from 5 to 10 feet...they call 10 feet king, but I don't think you could put a true king on it allowing 2-3 inches on each side for backing.
The machine arm is 15" long and the distance from the needle to the right side is 12"...with the embroidery unit attached the total width is 40". The embroidery unit no longer has to slide onto the bed of the machine, it sits off to the side so you can now do free arm embroidery with any hoop. The largest hoop (and you don't have to reposition it) is 10" X 16".
I saw a real size poster of the machine today...it is big! I'm most excited about the new thread delivery system...I often use a thread stand to allow difficult threads to relax before they enter the tension system, now the thread stand is basically built in. I talked to a lady today who was at BU and she said the machine runs so smooth and quiet and that the stitch is absolutely beautiful.
I have a lot going on for the next four months so it's probably best that I won't be tempted by having the new machine here. My husband said today he was going to tell all the family they can't come for Thanksgiving in case the machine arrives that week! He's kidding of course...family first!
Have a wonderful week!

Bad on me!! Turns out it was one of my computer connections. Hubby unplugged and then replugged and everything works.
That is one heck of a machine. I didn't pay that much for my original Gammill Classic! But, I'll tell you-if I were to ever stop quilting for customers, it would be a machine like this for me!!

I saw the new Bernina 830 at APNQ in Seattle last week. I even tried it! What a machine!
It's ENORMOUS. Here are the vital stats, for anyone (besides me) who's interested:
Length without embroidery unit = 20 inches
Length with embroidery unit = 42 inches
Depth (front to back) = 8.5 inches
Height of bed = 4 inches
Weight without embroidery module = 43 pounds
I was told the machine alone was $12,000, and that the frame was another $2,199. When I said someone on this forum had bought both for $12,000, the dealer looked at me askance. So you must have negotiated a good deal, Darlene!
