Fabric Markers

I want to do some shading on white muslin. I need markers or pencils that work subtley. Any suggestions? thanks, JAN

Depending on the effect you want to achieve, you might find that Fabric Inks work well.

Inktense (I think that is correct) can be use liked regular colored pencils. In other words, if you press hard you get dark if you color lightly you get light. I really like them. I have also used regular colored pencils and fabric medium and had good results--but have a blow dryer ready so your colors don't bleed.

I'm thinking of using a purple disappearing marking pen to mark a project I'm getting ready to quilt. Has everyone who's tried them been successful with them and all the purple really does disappear by itself?? . . . . .And it doesn't come back??

I am not comfortable using ANY markers on my quilts without testing them first on the actual fabrics that I will be using them on.
Make some marks on some scraps of fabric and see if it disappears. Does it come back if you iron it?
And, I ALWAYS wash my quilts when I am done with the binding to make sure that any chemicals I've used (starch/markers/glue, etc) are completely washed out of the fibers.

I have never had any problem removing the washable blue markers (by Clover, I think). But you must be prepared to wash your quilt in cold water after you are done. Just spraying the marks does not remove them permanently.

Thanks for the response . . . . . . . I think I'll use my regular ceramic marker to be safe.
