    Paducah in 2013

I am going to Paducah next year! I was wondering if anyone knows how early I need to make hotel reservations and where to stay. I am so excited. I have wanted to do this for years. I don't want to mess up by waiting too long to get a room. Also how many days are needed to see it all if I do not take classes? I appreciate any information you might have.

Get a room ASAP!! This site has a link to area hotels: http://www.paducah.travel/quilting/aqs-quilt-show/

Thank you, Margo! I knew it was difficult but I had no idea I needed to worry about it so soon.

My friends and I have wanted to go to the Paducah quilt show for years and decided to go. Apparently we should have looked for hotels months ago because they are telling us that there isn't a room in the area for those days. We did find one at a Casino in IL which was only 5 miles from the quilt show but it was $499.99 per night!! Needless to say that won't work for us. I couldn't believe the 27 hotels in Paducah that every single one of them were booked full. Must be quite a show!! Needless to say we won't be able to go this year - amybe next year.

You might try some of the lodges around Kentucky/Barkley lake. It is only 30 to 45 minutes away. Gilbertsville puts on its on small quilt show at the same time.

You can head north on the interstate to Marion, IL. That is about a 35 to 45 min. drive too. We booked with the Drury and it was reasonable. I live 2 hrs away, so usually just make a day trip. We may take two days this year, but haven't decided yet. We being, me, one of my DDs and her 2 older girls.

I tried for several years to get a hotel room within the first month after each show. I finally gave up trying, convinced there is almost no way to get a room there. I believe they even ran a lottery for rooms one year. I suspect there may be quite a few people who go that make their reservations for the following year while they are at the show or who have friends there that help them. I can't afford to go this year, but maybe I'll try again for 2014. I think it's easier to go to Houston. :?

Betty Jo, Eileen (eileenkny) and I are hoping to meet at Paducah in 2014. She'll be traveling with her husband, but I'll need a roommate. Let's talk about that. Robin

I have just reserved a room in this B&B and learned they have just gotten on the 'approved list of lodging' for the Quilt Show in Paducah. rates are reasonable and several rooms are still available.

You might try looking south of Paducah in Mayfield, KY. It is about a 20-25 minute drive. I have friends who live there and keep meaning to ask them for a few days on their sofa, but things keep getting in the way.

We had 2 rooms reserved at Ken Bar Lodge in Gilberstville close to the Kentucky Dam Lake. We are just going to need one and cancelled the other one Saturday. It is not fancy. But we have enjoyed staying there for at least the last 8 years. Janet and her family are so nice and go out of their way for the Quilters. There is also a fishing tournament going on so it may already gone. Sorry I did not think about letting you all know sooner. This has been a busy week.
