I finally lost the plot :)

The biggest quilt show in the UK is 'Festival of Quilts' in Birmingham. It takes place every year in August, and there are always a lot of interesting workshops - some only 90 minutes, other one or two days. I had planned to be there for four days: One day to look at the quilts, the a two-day workshop with a super German teacher who asked me to help her a little when she gets stuck with the language, and then another day of taking in all the eye candy.

Then today I get an email from the organizers of the show. They have added a handful of interesting 'stuff', amongst them a couple of workshops. My head was saying 'don't', but my fingers were filling in the form and my heart was whispering 'You only live once, despite of what that James Bond film is called, and you are not a cat', and 'Go on! Have some fun!'.

So I have now added two days to my hotel booking, and will turn up in Birmingham two days earlier than planned, all bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and ready for anything. The two day workshop is called 'Serendipity Wedges' with Polly Hempen ( http://www.pattihempen.com/) and seems to be about kaleidoscopes, something I have wanted to do for a long time.

Please, keep your fingers crossed that the FoQ organizers don't send any more enticing emails.

Lorchen, you go girl!! Sounds like lots of fun and well deserved break from the schedule you have teaching. I also teach and now and then when I go off on a retreat or to a quilt show return fully recharged.
      cheers

Lorchen - Yahoo! for you! I like the only live once line, so, 'Seize the Day!". We'd love a report when you catch your breathe!

How exciting! Patti lived near me in Texas. She came and presented at our guild just this last year. She describes how she designed that kaliedoscope flower quilt while at a Ricky TIms retreat in LaVeta. I follow her on Facebook. She has been busy writing books, holding retreats, and I think even teaching on cruises. You will enjoy her workshop.

Lorchen, that's wonderful. You will enjoy every minute. Sometime I will get to Birmingham but I plan on blowing all my money in IQFOI this year!

Lorchen, Enjoy it all. I live near enough to Houston that we go for 5 days. Patti is coming to our guild in August. She is doing one of her other classes but they both look like fun.

Lorchen, it's a fantastic experience - you won't regret a moment! The organisers sent another enticing email today about social events, which are reasonable value and a good way to spend the evenings! A hotel room on your own is not much fun...

Fiona, I rarely go to any of the organized social events. I normally meet up with friends in the evenings. We re-invent the wheel and gossip over a few G&Ts.

On her death bed my mother said the only thing she regretted was the things she did NOT do in life... if this is what you want to do... go for it ... have fun... YOU do deserve it.
