I'm just now getting to read all these posts about the Houston show...I am so thrilled to be going for the third year. It is absolutely the best week! Of course it's like quilting heaven, and then when you add getting to meet and spend time with so many TQS friends, it's just more than wonderful! I'll be there from Sunday till Sunday hanging out every day and taking a few classes this year for the first time.
Margarita, I'm sending good wishes and prayers for your speedy recovery so I can see your sweet smile again.
I am so excited.....can you tell!

I have been several times. I used to stay in an outlying hotel near the park 'n ride lots because they had special buses that ran about every hour to take you directly to the door of the convention center. Cost was about $10 bucks round trip and the trip was so relaxing and fun. HOWEVER, last year they decided not to run the buses (operated by local Metro). I don't know the reason, but I'm sure it was economic. I'm hoping they have this service again this year. I'll check and if I find out for sure, I'll let you know.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year. Greg and I will miss the dinner on Thursday night this year. We will be driving back to Austin to see our youngest son graduate from the police academy on Friday morning. Then we will be back for the weekend. Sure hope Mom (MargaritaW) and Dad (Joe who lurks) will be able to be there to keep an eye on our room.

Have you tried the Marriott at the Medical Center yet? It's located on Fannin Street, and literally across from it runs the light rail that will take you to within I can't remember if it's 3 or 4 blocks from the George R. Brown CV. I live in Houston and work at the Tex Med Ctr and catch the light rail at that location to go downtown. If you would like I could ask a woman I work with who knows the booking agents at the hotel pretty well as we use them annually when we put up our prospective grad students there, and they give is a very good rate during that time. Let me know if you are interested in this. Heidi

Wow! Am I excited!! We will have many new faces this year! I can't wait to see all my wonderful TQS friends. I will be arriving in Houston on Sunday afternoon and leaving at the close on the following Sunday!!! I have lined up classes with both Philippa Naylor and David Taylor. I sent in my request on the first night by internet...so hopefully I will get my choice of classes.
Gabber, when it gets closer to Quilt Fest, I will make reservations. I will post here on the Forum and on the Blogs with the details, giving everyone about a week or so to respond. Last year we had 30-35 TQSer's! It was so much fun, but the restaurant was noisy. Hoping to find something a bit quieter...but then we may be the noisy group!!! hehe
Margarita, I sure hope everything works out so that you and Joe can come.Happy Quilting,

I am arriving on Tuesday, and leaving Sunday morning. Sunday is my birthday, so want to get home and spend a bit of my day with my hubby! I have signed up for a class with Judith Baker Montano and Caryl Bryer Fallert! And of course Ricky's concert and the gala on the green! My friend and I are ready to rock Houston!

I received the following info regarding the buses:
"I will pass your comments on, but at this time we are not offering
the shuttle service to the park'n'ride lots. There is plenty of parking in
the downtown area. Some of the lots are 2-3 blocks away, but the convention
center runs a shuttle van from the parking lots to the convention center. It
is one of those vans that just keeps circling all day."

My sister and I are coming from Scotland to see the show. We are arriving on 28th October and hope to see some of the local history before the classes start on Monday. We haven't heard if we have any of our classes yet, hopefully we will hear soon.
We haven't any Jo-Ann's or Walmart over here, so we are hoping that we can get a bus (metro) to see at least one branch of them, (sad isn't it coming all that way and wanting to see two shops that you see all the time)

It's great to hear so many TQS members will be in Houston, I went in 07 and 08 and am soooooo looking forward to going again. I will be arriving on Wed afternoon and leaving Sun morning. I am waiting to hear about the classes I signed up for and of course Ricky's concert and the Gala. Not sure I have left myself enough viewing and shopping time but I'll manage. Janet, good luck with your entries. Wanda, thank you in advance for arranging dinner, Margarita, glad to hear you are making the journey. See you all soon, Pat

I just wanted to chime in and say that I too, am going to Houston! Wasn't real sure about it at first, but overcame a couple of hurdles and now it's a go. I hooked up with a group of friends who live a couple of hours south of me. We are all staying at the Hilton! Yeah! My hotel of choice! (Vicky - if you still do not have a room, keep calling the Hilton, as I think our group may be cancelling a couple of rooms if we quadruple up!) I am so excited, and this will be my 9th straight year. I just started to post and blog a couple of weeks ago, so am beginning to learn a little about each of you. What a fun group! I WILL go to the TQS booth each day at 1:00pm, and meet y'all! And, maybe Thursday night dinner? Didn't know what I'd been missing! Dana or Ann, tell Alex and Ricky Dawn Siden said "Hi!" when you see them on Monday. (I promise they will not give you a blank stare!!) Wish I could be there with you!
