    What do you quilt to?

It's a beautiful Saturday morning and I was listening to/watching different versions of Hair on YouTube while I was drinking my coffee and then I listened to the version of Aquarius on my Baz Luhrmann CD and I was all jazzed to go quilt. But then one last click on the Fifth Dimension's One Less Bell to Answer and now I'm going to go quilt something a little different than I planned...

A lot of the time, I'm so far behind on General Hospital that I'm listening to it you YouTube while I quilt. I also listen to The Quilt Show while I'm working.

Keith, all sorts of classical music float my boat. So I often quilt whilst listening to Rachmaninff, Delibes, Fauré, or Holst, to name a few.

But my taste is quite ecclectic, so you have to add Leonard Cohen, Santana, a little heavy metal here and there, etc. etc.......

My preference is to listen to books on "tape" also. I get very caught up in them and just keep on working, often late into the night. [Lately I've been listening to all the Jodi Piccoult (sp?)books.] For music, it varies from showtunes (Mama Mia is my latest favorite) to upbeat latino music to classical. Other times it's National Public Radio.

I recently found a free internet radio site called Pandora.com. You create your own "stations" by starting with a favorite artist. The computer selects tunes from that artist and artists with a similar style. I so far have set up 3 stations: Chicago, Enya, and Jimmy Buffett. I'm thinking about setting up an Andrew Lloyd Weber. Yeah, I'm as eclectic in my music as I am in my quilting style!

Books on CD keep me quilting until I can't see straight.

Various music and a TV to get me started , then at times just silence.
I work all day with people and noise, that just the sound of my machine is all I want to hear.

Keith, I like this question. I quilt to one of three things--silence, classical music (I like Shostakovitch, Handel, Mozart, and I'm a bit of a Renaissance Rascal in my musical tastes); and also I listen to books on tape--fun light mystery books).

I love 80s soft rock. Eric Harmon, Richard Marks, Brian Adams, Journey. Then there's the earlier stuff. Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel, the Beach Boys. I loved ABBA years before Mama Mia came out. Ooops, just realized all that is really dating me.

For some reason, listening to the Eagles gets me going. DD gave me their Farewell Tour 1 from Melbourne, Australia a couple of years ago. It's 3 hours long and they sing most of my favorites. I've watched it so often I don't have to look at it anymore to know who's doing what. So, I listen.
Our cable company has Music Choice stations-from classical to hip hop. Depending on my mood, I can listen to any kind of music I choose.

Mostly just silence so I can concentrate on my work and dream up my next project. Our home was the gathering place for all of the neighborhood children for many years and I'm enjoying my years without all of that noise. Sometimes I have HGTV or the news on but am working in another room so don't pay much attention to it unless there's a good news story or inclement weather.
