    Lancaster

I did a daytrip to Lancaster this year. They also still had rooms available at the Resort this year. Usually they are sold out. I toyed with the idea of staying and just inquired on a lark. I was surprised they still had rooms.

Compared to last year: crowds down...and it seemed fewer quilts and vendors. Last year I had to fight my way into the vendors...not this year.

I have to say...I only spent $50  Maybe it is a sign...I either have every thing I need or nothing really jumped out at me to buy.

There was one pattern I really liked. When I inquired about it, I was told it was 'behind the register'...this means in my world...it should stay there because it was $$$. So I looked it up when I got home...good thing because it was $168.00!!! YIKES...had she told me the price I would have fainted right there. That is just the pattern...without fabric attached to it.

Geez, was the pattern printed on gold lame paper??
It's a shame that the shows are suffering too in this economy. I guess people are just staying closer to home these days.

For that price the pattern should have come with the fabric and someone to at least cut out the pieces!

I went to the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach, CA last July and the vendors were crowded. Four of the vendors were shops local to where I live. I spoke with them each the next time I visited their shops and asked how the Festival was for them. Each one of them said the same thing, they didn't do very well. People were just not buying. There were tens of thousands of people there each day but not spending money.

I guess I just didn't see anything new...it seemed that everyone had the same stuff at each booth.

The expensive pattern was an applique pattern. While I have spent $$$ for applique patterns...I really couldn't understand the cost of this one without the fabric. I am sure it will find a happy home with another quilter.

I have reached the point of being more selective and realistic in my tastes and purchases. I don't have to own every book, pattern or piece of fabric. I just need to use the stuff I own...which frankly is still new to me.
