I've never gone to a big quilting show like Houston or Kentucky. Would it be silly to go just to walk around? I mean do most people go to classes all day?

Although it's probably too late for me to get a room now.

Ann, thanks for the name of the RV park. I doubt if I can convince my hubby to drive me down, but I would love to do that! JoJo, I don't see why you have to take classes. I think you need at least two days - even 3 - to walk the show and see all the quilts, too. I think my brother and his wife will be having a booth again.

JoJo,
I have attend Houston about 8 times starting in 1980 when it was in a hotel. I didn't take classes until the last 4 times. There is more than enough to keep you busy just on the main floor. There are short free lectures on the floor going on all the time and several hands on areas. I don't spend as much time in the booths as I did because some are repeats and some years my interests are focused on just certain aspects. But the display area takes more of my time than ever. If you don't have a class catalog then here is the online access point http://www.quilts.com/home/shows/vie...;menu=schedule You have to register to log in but it is free.
I am waiting for my class confirmations in the mail with fingers crossed. My friend received hers on Monday. I hope, I hope, I hope.

Diana is right lots to do.

Also, last year some of us took different classes, you walk up,wait in line and pay I think $10 for a demo and make and take. One of them was a pineapple quilt block that my friend took and then proceeded to teach us. She also bought the book from the vendor. I took a class on hexigons and then we all went to the booth to buy more supplies and from there we bought more from Cotton & Chocolate on line. She sold us a lot of stuff but it's a way to learn a new technique for a minimal investment, minimal time and usually we learn a LOT. The vendors make out because then we go to their booth usually to spend more $$ - they usually give out discount coupons too and now we are repeat customers - on line.

Check the hall for times and places for these short classes.

Oh wow. Thanks for the link. Guess I'd better check to see if there are any hotel rooms available before I do too much more.

The Lakeview Resort is quite nice - close to Medical Center too if any of you ever have the need!

I might have to come visit you there since I've also done the RV/quilting thing for a couple of years. It's challenging!

MontanaGramma- PLEASE COME!

Denise, welcome! Good find!

Just remember walking in Houston at 95 and 95% humidity might be a little more taxing than you are used to! ha

But if you do 5 miles normally, it'll still be a piece of cake!

Brink! I'm so eager to meet and hug you too! And a vacation to go along with it!

That's enough for a big Ricky Tims "WooHoo!"

I'll be there too, with my mom (MargaritaW). We will be there from Tuesday afternoon until Sunday morning. I have an all day class on Wed, and one on Friday with my daughter.

I haven't tried parking at car at the convention center for a long time. Parking at the downtown hotels several years ago was $30/day. Look into taxis from the outlying. Never tried it but might be a way.

I was able to make reservations today at LakeView RV Resort. Now, just have to figure the best way to get the Roller Home (this is the name our granddaughter gave the Motor Home) down to GBCC to unload the booth stuff. If you go to the George Brown Convention Center web site it gives you a good map of downtown and shows the new underground parking lot in front of the center, plus other parking places and directions to get there. Again this year, we will be giving a FREE fat quarter of my hand dyed fabric for all TQS members that come by our booth and say, Hi.

I also was able to make my reservation for the LakeView RV Resort today so now know we have a place to stay for the Houston Show. It will be fun to meet everyone in person. Whoo Hoo Look out Houston when the TQS gang arrives. Ann

Ann, I remember several years ago when the Houston Astros made the World Series. The games were the same time as the quilt show. All the sports people were upset because all the hotel rooms were taken up with quilt people.

Joy, You are a very generous lady. Thank you. I will now start a list of 'must do's at Houston and a visit to your booth will be at the top, or maybe just below Ricky's concert, Lol. The picture on your website homepage is beautiful!!

I look forward to meeting so many new friends at Houston. Pam in wet UK
