A Yankee in hurricane country -

I'm originally from New York. Back in the early 70's, I lived in New Orleans for 4 years. Eventually, a hurricane headed our way, and my neighbors were very helpful instructing us how to prepare. I remember getting caught up in the frenzy at the grocery store, coming home with cans of stuff we NEVER ate! I was told to put masking tape up on all of the windows to prevent them from shattering - I did, but no one told me to take the tape down before the sun hit it the next day - baked it on, and this was before "Goo-Gone" was invented! My neighbors also told me to fill the bathtub with water. I told her, "no thanks, I wouldn't drink that". She replied, in so many words, "Hey you stupid jerk Yankee, that water isn't for drinking, it's for flushing your toilet!". A few months after Katrina, my husband was in New Orleans on business. He went to see our old house, and it was completely destroyed.

Had to giggle over the bath-tub story! I would've responded the same way as you.

The bathtub thing is really important! Especially when there's no AC!
