pictures can i put some of my favorites on this site,or is that

against the rules? I will check in tomorrow after the show.

sherren. p.s. i dont mean the rules of the quilt show, i mean

    the quilters them self.

I have seen many quilts posted on varies places on this site of quilts viewed and photographed at quilt shows. I haven't heard of there being a problem with it. I would love to be able to see what you see at the quilt show.

Technically, I think that any time you have a copy of someone else's copyrighted work in any form, including a photograph, you need the creator's permission to do anything with it. I believe you even need permission to take the photograph! I would say, however, that entering the quilt into a show which allows photography is some sort of implied permission, though I'd like to know if anyone knows that for sure.

Most of the time it appears that copyright violators are never confronted by the creator unless it gets to the point that they are making money from the copyrighted item so more than likely no one will say anything if you post photos to the web site.

Usually photos taken at a quilt show is considered to belong to the photographer since it is at a public event, much like photos taken for newspapers and magazines. Exceptions would be if the quilt show is posted as NO PHOTOGRAPHS allowed... ( museums, performing events) prior to the event. It is true about making money from the quilt patterns those of are copyrighted, but pictures of the quilt belong to the photographer. It is more on how the photographs are used. Most quilt designers see photographs as free advertisments.... especially IF you give them / their work- patterns credit.

It is my understanding that, when posting photos of someone else's quilts, you must also post the name of the quilter. At least, that's what it always says in the Road to California Show's booklet.

          Have fun!
