off topic Have you seen any good movies lately
I finished cleaning the house and am bored out of my mind. I can not sew as my sewing room is converted for my husband's poker party tonight. Food is cooked and ready. He is ordering in. Do not feel like hand sewing.
Planning to take the neighbor's kid ( grandma neighbor too) to see NIMS ISLAND tonight during the poker party so I am out of the house.
Are there any good movies ... not kid but for adults out therre right now .... I love mystery but not really gore. Comedies are good... any goooooood movie any genera would be considered.
Any good DVD for rent. I have not rented anything
SUGGESTION PLEASE
Keep this post going because I alway like a good movie on when I sew.

Shawshank Redemption is one of my all time favorite movies. I'm not much of a movie watcher but I'm really looking forward to the new Indiana Jones movie. I loved that series. Can't think of anything I watched lately that I can even remember anything about. I'll be interested in what everyone else has enjoyed. I just came home from seeing NIMS ISLAND. I thought it was a great KID (GIRL) ADVENTURE MOVIE... Jodi Foster was great... the little girl was believeable. My heart went wild / pitter pat over GERARD BUTLER.
I wish they had more great movies for girls when my daughter was a kid.... something with substance..... not shopping, boys, gossiping and being mean... IF YOU LIKE THE INDIAN MOVIES you would probably like this...( toned down / not violent) but adventure and concoquering your fears.
I loved it and can't wait to take my 7 year old neice... she will love it.
THE AMERICAN GIRL MOvie previes.... being released this summer looked pretty good too. I think it is about time their were movies with good role model and believeable activities and actions for girls and kids...

I recently saw Becoming Jane, which was a fictionalized account of a period in Jane Austen's life just before/as she started writing. I thought it was fairly good.
If you liked Nancy Drew books as a kid, you might like the movie. I thought it was pretty cute, though definitely geared to kids.
My favorite listed here was the French movie A Very Long Engagement with Audrey Tatou (and also Jodie Foster who must speak French, who knew?). It is a mystery set in World War I (so some gory war scenes but mostly not). The only problem here is that it's not good for sewing because you have to read the subtitles unless you know French.
Three of my all-time favorites are You've Got Mail, Crossing Delancey, and The Saint.

Nothing beats the classics...Rear Window, North by Northwest, Notorious...Gaslight...etc.
comedies: Bringing Up Baby, Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World...
I love anything with Bette Davis, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Joan Crawford (in Midred Pierce).
I am a serious 'old movie buff'.
For current movies, I don't have a clue. I usually wait until current films come to cable.
I do have some favorites of contemporary films: Keeping Mum (British film with Maggie Smith), Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. The Queen (with Helen Mirren), Calendar Girls, Driving Miss Daisy. OK..some of these are not 'current'....but it is the best I could do!

Thinking of favorite movies AND of old ones, I love the movie "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." Saw it once on late night tv and have loved it ever since.
Just saw Nim's Island tonight too - really liked it as did my DH.
I'll "cogitate" this topic overnight and add more tomorrow.

Shawshank is definately one of my all time favorites - awsome music, especially the breakout sequence. Other really good movies I love are What Dreams May Come, all the Lord of the Rings films, The Princess Bride, all the Harry Potter films (although I prefer the books), Fiddler on the Roof, Gettysburg, Gone with the Wind, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Hudsucker Proxy... my tastes are all over the map, lol

My all time favorite: Somewhere in Time. I just melt whenever I see it.
All the Harry Potter movies-I agree the books are better. I loved Indiana Jones too.
I have to admit-I'm a Star Wars fan. Maybe because of Harrison Ford?

I love the oldtime(?) musicals...Kiss Me Kate, Kismet, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Or maybe I'm just a Howard Keel fan?? Also like old(again a relative term?) TV shows. Right now I have the dvds of "Christy" and "Road to Avonlea" series to watch. I also like the English tv comedies that are on PBS or BBCAmerica...Are You Being Served and Keeping Up Appearances. Another venue I like while quilting is my XM Radio. Usually on the 40's music or clean comedy channel. Sally in "quick-look at that- the sun is shining"NE OhioJenny in Oz
