Jolene, I love that story. And your split nine patch is a beautiful quilt!
When we sold our last house five years ago, my realtor said that I should make my sewing room into a bedroom, so I did and put all my quilting things in boxes and stored them. I was miserable for those eight months. We are selling our house this Fall and I had already decided that I am leaving my sewing space just like it is with a quilt in progress on the machine and a finished one over the chair. Thanks for sharing this story....just made my decision final.

When we sold our house, I left everything in it's place with many quilts on the walls. People loved seeing them. I watch all the "staging" on HGTV to sell homes, but I think most people can picture the home if they were to buy it. Good luck on selling your home, Dana! Keeping your quilting out will help you to keep your sanity!

I agree with u ladies... the house has to have some personality and warmth, and what has more warmth and speaks of home than a quilt? Mine are stying up, and my BOM is out on my cutting table.... tomorrow is the real estate agent tour. Wish me luck so I can get mom moved in with us.

I saw a great movie just now. It's called "New in Town" and starred Renee Zelwigger as a big city girl who goes to a town in MINN from Miami in the winter to modernize the factory. She meets a guy, Harry Konnick Jr. The small town people are so endearing and she learns to love them and their small town ways.
There are quilts in every house! The local ladies even make her a quilt. There's also alot of corny scrapbooking references. I won't give away the rest of the movie, but it's a happy ending.
Look for it! It's really good! Nancy

I recently watched the movie "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Movie". It's a must-see for anyone who appreciates fine handwork (sewing, knitting or quilting). The setting is during the Great Depression and the little girl, Kit, is forced to wear clothes made from feedsacks. Her clothes and knitted hats are too beautiful for words. Oh, there are also quilts. I think one is a tumbling block. Since I don't remember, I'm going to have to watch the movie again.

I used to love that show. It was the only time in the week when I felt happy, as my home was chaotic and violent. (I was just hitting my teens.) My mother used to get mad at me for watching it, because she said it bore no resemblance to real life.

Okay, who started this? Now, I'll probably never watch a movie again without looking for quilts. I've got to go back and watch "The Secret Life of Bees" again, because I am certain it would have some quilts in it--another good movie.

One of our local theatres shows old movies during the summer. On Wednesday I saw "The Awful Truth" and "The Philadelphia Story", both with Cary Grant. I saw two quilts in "The Awful Truth", one was a Grandmother's Flower Garden and I didn't see the second one close enough to tell what it was. Boy was that a really funny movie, lots of people laughing through the whole movie.

I loved Little House and The Waltons. I watched them as a young married just for their interest as I didnt quilt then! Sadly, they are not on now, although if they re-air I shall watch with great interest for the quilts. By the way, talking about UK, as they might air with you in the states! That reminds me, when I had just started quilting, about 14yrs ago, was friends with a quilter of a couple of years. She came over clutching a video saying 'I have just found a quilting video to watch'. Dont forget, here in UK NOT much around at that time. Anyway, we put it in the machine, settled down to watch, and it was a movie called 'How to make an American Quilt'. I laughed as she was really disappointed, but I enjoyed the movie and there was a quilt in it!!!!

I have to correct what I posted the other day. I meant to say Double Wedding Ring instead of Grandmother's Flower Garden! ops: In the Los Angeles area we still get re-runs of Little House and I think even the Waltons. I' ve also found sets of DVD's for these shows at Sam's Club and Costco. Judy in Torrance
