Quilt in Movies, Television Shows, Commercials, etc.

Do you ever notice quilts used as props in movies, television show, commercials, etc. I love looking for quilts in Little House on the Prarie.

Yeah I see them all the time! Even DH has caught that bug... he'll holler for me to come see a quilt in the background on some TV show & of course by the time I get there it's gone, then I'm stuck watching to see if they show that angle again! Saw one last weekend watching "Groundhog Day" (again!) with Bill Murray, there was a quilt alternating pieced blocks with applique'd groundhog profiles! HA!

I love to notice quilts on TV! Remember the Waltons? I loved the show where they were making Mary Ellen's wedding quilt! I still miss the Waltons lol! I'm such a old battybird. Thats a word my Grandmother made up and I still use it.

Walton reruns are on while I'm at work so forgot about them but they had lots of quilts. Also movie Stepmom (I think that was the title) with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon. Susan's character was dying of cancer and she makes a memory quilt for her daughter.

Oh, yes...Groundhog Day. My husband and I watch it every year on Feb 2, and this year I was just mesmerized everytime they showed that quilt. I could wake up everyday under that quilt! (By the way, that movie holds up just great!)

My son talked me into watching one of his tacky movies lately and I can't recall the title, but the mom's house was all decorated with quilts and she was quite frumpy and they kind of made fun of her. My feelings were hurt!

I watch The Dog Whisperer and there was an episode lately with a golden retriever and the "mom" is a quilter. She had an awesome upstairs hallway that overlooked her living room and it was a great place to display about 5 of her quilts. She was a very meek, soft spoken woman and Cesar had to encourage her to be "the pack leader" and take control of the dog. Very cute!

There's a commercial out for the cervical cancer vaccine, Gardasil, where all the girls/women are saying they want to be "one less". One of the quick scenarios shows a nine patch with the words "One Less" appliqued on it.
My take on it is for women of all ages to consider the vaccine.

I wound up watching the movie "Crimes of the Heart" last night, and noticed the quilts on the beds in the sisters' bedroom.

Anybody watch BritWit on PBS? "As Time Goes By" has a patchwork quilt in the master bedroom.

Sounds morbid, but dh and I saw the movie "The Day After" here a couple of weeks ago and I noticed several quilts on beds in a farm house as well as being used by one of the charactors to try and sheild himself from fallout - that one was a grandma's flower garden I do beleive, and it just struck me as so out of place in that setting.

I'm a big fan of Jean and Lionel also, and love to hear their bedtime discussions under the quilt.

"Secrets That Sell" is a show on HGTV where the hosts are mother / daughter real estate team that tell homeowners why their home is not selling. Yesterday they featured a couple with lots of problems, corn snake and big dog bed in living room, tortoises (sp) in patio area, cat litter in bedroom. In addition to these problems they had a red and white log cabin quilt on the bed in the master bedroom. The hosts said they needed to replace the quilt with something more neutral. The homeowners immediately defended the quilt, it was an expensive Amish quilt and the hosts told them the quilt was beautiful, they understood them displaying it. The mother / daughter team were both quilters but explained the focus of the bedroom needed to be on the room not on the quilt.

I always thought the bed is what sold the bedroom make it look cozy and inviting. Like there was no place on earth more comfortable or warm. By the way the Christmas movie "The Holiday" with Cameren Dias and Kate Winslet. (I know I probably misspelled both their names) Kate's house in England had a couple quilts in it as well as Camerens english beau. I believe when they were visiting with his daughters the homemade tent was made with a quilt. Plus the movie "Snowdogs", his biological mother had a quilt. I can't remember what the names of them were but keep an eye out for them the next time you see the movies.

"I always thought the bed is what sold the bedroom make it look cozy and inviting".

A couple of years ago the house where I lived was on the market. Every time there was a showing I would put away my quilting. After a few dozen times of this routine I decided I wasn't going to hide my quilting. I left the quilt folded neatly on my open sewing table. When the realtor called later to say that the couple wanted to buy the house, she said it was the quilt that sold the house. (She really said this.) Later when they returned for the inspection I asked her if she quilted. She said she didn't but her mother was a quilter and she had a "loom" in her living room. (Visions of her weaving her own cloth.) LOL
If you'd like to see the quilt, it is the split nine patch in my profile.
