    Class room Request

    Alex,
Would you please consider doing a class on choosing a quilting thread. I have just experienced removing a quilting thread mistake and realized this is a dilemma for me each time I finish a quilt. Once I have chosen the quilting pattern I am stuck on thread choices. Color, weight, stitch length ect are all my issues. The thread never seems to enhance the pattern like I am expecting.. Thanks, Dot

I'm not Alex, who I bet is very busy (and having lots of fun) right now at the tapings of the next series of shows in Boulder. But maybe my suggestion isn't too bad: If I'm unsure what thread to use, I make a small quilt sandwich from bits of leftover fabric from that quilt (these normally end up as place mats or tote bags) and try out several threads. It's a good way for me to compare how the threads look with the fabrics and makes the final choice relatively easy.

For any specific thread question: Bob and his wife at 'Superior Threads' are very generous with help and advice.

Here's a suggestion... Unwind some of the thread from the spool and let it fall loosely on top of your quilt. Thread almost always looks different as a single strand than it does on the spool. It may be darker, lighter, thicker, thinner, or just plain the wrong color for what you want. I'll put a couple different puddles of thread on the quilt and see which effect I like the best. Sometimes I'm surprised  ! Hope that helps a little. - Tina

Dot, Superior Threads (a TQS sponsor) has wonderful information on their site. They have an education section and this chart is under "reference". Maybe it will be of some help to you.

They have not only terrific threads but there's lots to learn just by looking around their site. http://www.superiorthreads.com
