First International Quilt Festival of Ireland

As you saw in the Daily Blog this week:

Mark your calendars for the 1st annual International Quilt Festival of Ireland, June 7th - 10th, 2012, yes, 2012. This convention will be something new as it will not be held in a convention hall, but in a specially designed quilter's village on the banks of the River Corrib. There will be everything from a Farmer's Market, to a chocolate shop, to hands-on quilting classes. There will even be programs for non-quilters.

The Irish Patchwork Society, the Quilter's Guild of Ireland, the Northern Ireland Patchwork Guild and Sew Many Places, welcome you to their one-of-a-kind festival. For more information please visit their website by clicking here: http://www.iqfoi.com/index.html

On June 7, 2011, you will have the opportunity to sign up for all of the hands-on quilting classes, on location workshops, and non-quilter activities, so mark this date on your calendar!

I have just reserved my vacation for June 2012 - and am very much planning on being in Galway that week

    Check out the Website: http://www.iqfoi.com/index.html
there must be a way that all attending SOTTTs, Sensational Strippers and Potholders can meet up

Great idea, Lotti. I wish I could go, but even though I live in England, so it's not that far, the timing is totally wrong. Till I retire I totally depend on school holidays because of my job. I think it's great that Ireland is organizing a major quilting event, and I bet it'll be amazing. I have seen some very beautiful textile work by Irish quilters over the years. Let's hope that there can be a TQS get-together at that festival.

Lotti, I just checked. TQS has 63 Irish members. Let's hope that some of them read your messages.

              Hello Lotti,

thank you for the opening this Thread. I also have to spend before my vacation the next year in Ireland and to connect him with the visit of the International Quilt Festival. I will be 2 weeks in Ireland, so that certainly an appointment can be found for a meeting. I am glad already very much to visit Ireland again and if I can meet then still members TQS, this is simply great.

Here a few more pictures of my last Ireland vacation http://www.flickr.com/photos/milavia...33939559/show/

When I first read about the Ireland Quilt Festival I wanted to attend as Ireland is a country I want to visit because my ancestors came from there to Canada and I also love quilting. BUT then I read that it is in June. I work at a school and June is one of our busiest months so I guess my dream will have to continue to be that until I retire but I sure look forward to reading about it here on the forum and hope those who can attend will post pictures!

Debbie, I share your pain, so to speak. I'll be free to roam any time after July 2014. Can you meet me then, or do you have to wait a little longer??

If I take a reduced pension that would be 2014 but I might have to go for a full pension and wait a little longer. Otherwise I might not be able to afford to get to Ireland and the swim is just too daunting!

                      Syvia:
WOW - tolle fotos - what fabulous pictures - yes - it is definitely high time for another visit to the emerald isle :P

                      Debbie & Lorchen:
feel with you - it is difficult to juggle all the places and events we want to visit with the actual time (& funds) available.
we just have to doubly/tripply enjoy and take in to relive again and again, those that we can actually make happen now.

i've been trying to go back to the European Patchwork Show in the Elsass, France for the past 5 years - but for me, this should finally happen again this september. The great thing about the show in Ste. Marie aux Mines, is that it takes place in a number of little villages in the one area - using their churches, theatres, schools, gymnasiums, whatnot's for the exhibition halls. as you walk through the pretty villages and drive from one village to the next - you have time to "digest" what you have just seen - and let your brain, eyes, soul get ready to absorb the next part. as each display area has their own topic/types it's also always a completely new "show".
something i can highly recommend to everyone in the area in mid september http://www.patchwork-europe.com/?lang=en

My DH and I were planning on a trip to Ireland in 2012 as a retirement from the Navy gift to ourselves, but June is too soon for us. He retires in July. Not only that, My daughter will be graduating from High school in June. Oh well, maybe next time.

Lotti, there is a similar show to that French one in Scotland every year.

There are lots of cheap flights into Glasgow International airport from Europe every day and the Loch Lomond Quilt Show is only half an hour from the airport.
