I only joined the forum a year and a bit ago so that's how long I have known Lotti. My children were very funny when I picked them up from school today and told them that I had met Lotti from The Quilt Show forum. They said that I was always preaching to them about the dangers of 'internet friends' and that I didn't practice what I preach. However, when they saw the KILO of chocolates that Lotti brought they decided that she must be a good person!

As for hunting out fabric shops, well there are only about 5 in the whole country. The one closest to me is 'by appointment only'! Anyway, we are saving our money to spend at the IQFOI next week.

Well I expect that you met her in a public place and let people know where you were going beforehand  Besides I should think that she is only going to mug you of your stash, given half a chance
Although it doesn't sound as if you have warned your kids against strangers offering them chocolates :P

Oh rosemary, you know me so well!
Had a fabulous visit and chat.... And a picture or two - though still in my camera. Am battling with an Irish sim card for my iPad so that I can stay in touch during the next week or so. Internet at this b&b very erratic, and expect it could get worse, or unavailable as we travel on. I much prefer B&B's to the much more impersonal hotels, but this also means that quality, conveniences and the people can be considerably different from one place to the next.
            Onwards on our journey today.

So have either of you entered a quilt in The Irish Quilt Show?

I've been thinking about this overnight. Your kids are right to remark about the dangers of 'internet friends'. But then again what has this proved about this particular forum, as Alex & Ricky keep saying, it is the 'TQS Family' and we feel safe here to open ourselves up, let our hair down, and trust the poeple we have met online here to be decent and welcoming, if we have the opportunity to meet them in the flesh. It is a lot to be thankful for, especially on the internet, where there can be an awful lot of nasty minded people who just like making trouble for the sake of it.

This is true Rosemary - and I did mention to my kids that this forum is limited to quilters and that I am a lot older and wiser  than them. However, I would also say that I would not dream of meeting up with somebody who did not have an active profile on TQS or an ever changing photo on their profile. The blogs are a great way of getting to know people here too. I also have my action hero DH on hand.

Twiglet, I have two quilts that are going to be in the IQFOI. One in the Chocolate Decadence category and the other in The Road Less Travelled category. I won't be winning any medals as my points don't meet and my quilting is crap but I felt that I should enter as I am from Ireland.

Twiglet, My experience with TQS and its members has been wonderful. I have been a star member for a little more than a year. I think what Rosemary has said about TQS Family is true. The member bloggs also provide a way for you to go back and learn about members you wish to know better. The staff is wonderful. If you have a technical problem you know you will recieve a friendly email from Computer Bob. I had problems with the puzzles once and got a series of emails from Capt. John himself, (Alex's husband) until we got the glitch figured out. Had a problem with some Superior Thread (TQS Sponsor) & sent pictures of the problem to "The Thread Guy" (Bob Purcell - President of Superior Threads) and heard from him by email within 2 hours. It was a product quality problem and I had new thread in 2 days. The members of this community have outstanding skills and lots and lots of experience. They keep me motivated and they keep me laughing. The more you participate the more fun you have and the more you learn. Lois

PS. It is a good thing to begin collecting old episodes. I buy the DVD's so I can share with friends who do not have internet access. On the very first episode I was intrigued by Joe Cunningham's stick frame. I ordered his DVD and made myself one. I guess those hours just watching my Dad and Grandfather do carpentry work must have paid off. I made one myself with no trouble at all. I use it for basting quilts and I no longer have to crawl around on the floor. I have learn so much at TQS.

I agree with Rita. I wouldn't meet up with anyone who has not made regular contributions to the cite with questions and pictures about their work and themselves. You should see what happens when someone tries to sell us something on this Forum. TQS has the best police force ever. Ads get reported in an instance by members. They don't last long.

Wow Lois, love your carpentry skills and what a great frame to have. I will have to go and have a look at Joe Cunningham's programme again. Thanks for the reminder.

Just happened to read the very first post on this Thread and learned that I might be out of line here. It said, "For UK members only." Opps! Just like me to put in my 2 cents where it doesn't belong. Oh well. I am from across the pond but do so love the UK quilters. Lois

Hi Lois - From what I've seen, all quilters are welcome on all forums. I don't think anyone would consider you out of line or want you to not post. You have a lot to share on all of the forums!

Lois, love the frame you made--impressive! I totally concur in what you said about TQS, the camaraderie and support, which is unrivalled.

Lois, the different country sections were started, so that if we had a country specific question/problem, it could be sorted out 'in country' as it were, different brands of starch, suppliers, shows etc. It would be pointless to talk about really great sales at Hancocks or Joanne's here, because they don't trade in UK (unless you want lots of shipping and taxes added to your bill  ). Lorna posted that she was getting posted over here, and promptly got adopted with offers of assistance 8)

Apart from that we just natter on as usual  By the way, your upright posts are very smart looking in the photo, there is a lot going for the old fashioned quilt frame, as recommended by Joe Cunningham, even if only for basting quilts.
