    yum!

Mine will probably be yellow or green.

A question/comment: Can we agree to WASH the fabric first, and make that a 'pinkie promise"? I got really disapointed with a few from the HST excahnge that were batiks and not washed

Also - do you want/allow batiks?

I agree with the request for pre-washed fabrics!

I would also like to ask if it's OK if we STARCH our fabrics?
Working with these loooooong narrow strips will make them so much easier to manage if they are starched before the 1" strips are cut.
If we cut eight pieces of fabric, 5" X WOF strips and starch them, it will make cutting and sewing so much more accurate.

      May we? May we?? :?:

        Margo,
I'll starch mine after I prewash it. I'll do orange, my son's favorite color.

Rosemary, You told me I was nuimber 5b. What does the "b" mean?

Okay, I will join in!! I will do TURQUOISE!
I will prewash and starch after, then cut and piece.

Rosemary, do you mean that if we want border spools also, we need two numbers -- which means we need to make 82 to swap. (41 for the center and 36 for the border, and few extras)

I will send you an email Rosemary. Thanks for setting this up!

Pre-washing - Great reminder (better check mine again ops: )

Batiks - They had better be allowed, I've got some in my batch. Not only that but I had a load that I had cut into 2 1/2" squares for my 'Batty.' quilt and then didn't use, so I sewed them back together and re-cut to size

Starch - Starch is gooood! Love the stuff for piecing! (chocolate is also good, are the pink bits raspberrys or some of Dawn's watch-a-ma-call-them berries?)

Numbering system - I am running 2 groups of 41's, 'a's' and 'b's'. I made up my spread sheet going 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b,.......41a, 41b. This does not mean that you will be swapping with all a's or all b's. Heck I don't even guarantee that you will receive one of your own patches back

just got home and have to go to a funeral first thing tomorrow morning - but will be gettin some starch on the way home - will have to use spray - havn't been able to find liquid in ages - but that too will work
then figure out which fabrics - as i prewash everything that goes into my stash that part shouldn't be a problem
                  yeahhhhhhhh
                  lotti

I guess you might have to go shopping for more! 8)

I bought a charm roll - 10 x 5" x full width strips at Harrogate show, and added in some batik 'blenders' from a jelly roll that I already had. But I also have made some hrt (Half Rectangle triangles) to add some movement to the patch and 'cos I felt like it  - I will write up how I did them tomorrow or Friday for the enquiring minds.

So, don't you just have one of everything? Start from there!

Yes I think I should probably be doing something with HRT patches myself!

Yes I will prewash my fabrics. Yes I will use starch - only light spray starch available here, will that do?

I ordered lots of fabric before Christmas and am still waiting for deliveries from USA so I will just have to wait until Sunday and see.

What is the problem with batiks? Is it that they are harder to hand quilt or is there some other reason?

                          Rita.

Rita, starch just makes the fabrics more stable and manageable, and I think that Rosemary will say that spray starch is just fine.
Yes....batiks are harder to hand quilt, but they are also notorious for bleeding, so they should be pre-washed for sure!
Synthrapol helps control the bleed. Read about it here: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/en...chemicals.html
Check with your local quilt shop for it!

Thanks Margo. Yes I have some synthrapol so I will use it when I am pre-washing the fabrics. Rita.
