Kari, Shirley may be right and I know from experience that you can get caught in something that will cost you lots of money. No one wants that for you. I think that your ideas are just wonderful, but also, getting Sister A with Sister B to make them both happy with an exchange that they handle personally is going to be no small feat. It will be a job - rewarding I have no doubt - because everyone will know who to contact if they need or want something (YOU) and you'll know who needs to be matched with whom. We're all going to do this anyway that is easy for you and we're going to help you in anyway we can! You can count on it.
I haven't received my HST package yet, but I'm willing to make any extras you need and I know Shirley and some other wonderful sisters are too. We're behind you Kari. Don't take our comments to mean that we don't think you know what you're doing!!

I've just thought of something else. The papers! I've already removed all of my papers and pressed open my HSTs. I know that there are some members who are trying to get a complete set of papers who might be interested in what I have so I will be more than willing to send them, if they are OK with just papers, with no fabric.
I would rather send them all than to go through the papers looking for specific ones.
I will also be glad to send some duplicate HSTs (PRESSED OPEN, WITH NO PAPERS) if someone is short, because my project is now almost completely pieced, and I have more than I need.
Kari, I'm hoping you can hook me up with someone who wants these so that you don't have to deal with postage and I can just mail them directly.

For example, in our "SoTTT" exchange, I anticipated that there would be some instances at the end where Debbie and Clara could use some extra "moola" for unforeseeable postage situations that might arise in the distribution process...so I contributed (like some other sisters did) money so, hopefully, they would not have to use any of their own financial resources and also not have to go through the extra work of requesting extra postage which would slow down the mailing process. However, until some generous souls want to step up to the plate and contribute money to a "general fund" which Kari would probably be the one to maintain, this could also slow down the process of the exchange and complicate matters.
If there are international exchanges, then both parties should be willing to pay their own postal rates.
We need to keep this as simple as possible for everyone.

Thank-you very much for the concern and the willingness to help.

Once again, thank-you very much for the concern as well as the suggestion - got to run the little guy has woke up from his nap.

You-re right Kari, the same way we did the original exchange sounds like it would be the best way to go. I'm sure each of us would not mind including a dollar bill to helo out with any added espenses. What do you think ladies???? Really nice of your husband to go along with your plan---especially tellong him AFTER you already volunteered. LOL

I was fortunate to receive many duplicates, etc. because I sent in 616 HST's. I am looking to trade with someone who might have been lucky to receive a duplicate from South Korea. My step-daughter is from Seoul and it would be nice to have one to commemorate her birthplace. If you'd like to trade, please contact me at mailto:sforster395@yahoo.com -or- contact me through my profile. Thanks much.

Over the weekend I sat down to try to log my hst in order to find the multiples and pull out my extras. And I have to say that I am having a difficult time defining what exactly is a duplicate. Originally I defined it as coming from the same person. But once I really started looking at each 'duplicate' I realized that almost all of the hst are from different fabrics. Out of the 400 I made it through last night I ended up with only about 50 exact duplicates, and probably 250 person duplicates.
I want to say thank you to the sorters - again - because they have truly exceeded all my expectations. Wonderful job laddies! Thank-you for all of your hard work.
So, this is my question - how are YOU defining 'duplicate' - based on fabrics or based on labels?

I do think Marilyn's points about considering both ways is better because of the HST's she received. This would give a fairer distribution to the exchange/trade for everyone interested. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Kari, for volunteering to help improve our exchange... first off...I love my HSTs and and am not the least bit unhappy !
. I'm comfortable using colors and "scraps"as it were...I spent the wknd reviewing and find I have the following: of 616 sent, 646
returned and of those 41 are unsigned, leaving 605 from 229 individuals. Here's what else is evident....I have many from the
same persons..some 55 individuals, 4 to 12 HSTs each, many in the 6,7,8 range. Not many are duplicate fabrics..just a few...but
for all those multiples I have ...someone else is without !! And for me, a big part of all this is having as wide a representation of
the Sisterhood as possible. So.....first...I have 30 extras that someone probably needs and I'm happy to send as I'm asked.
And second...I'd like to have a redo with all these multiples...I don't think it could be too much worse and certainly better with
more time and attention to what's happening with the sorting ...less people, less confusion. No criticism here!...Deb and Clara
and the sorters did a terrific job given the massive pile of HSTs. I just think we could do a smaller resort and come out ahead.
The extra cost of postage and return postage will be less and at this point , not significant in relation to completion of the project.
Well, said my piece..and will wait to see how to proceed ! And keep on planin' that quilt !! Marilyn
