Hey everyone. I'm sure everyone is crazy busy with using up the HSTs, but if you have extras or dups that you will not be using, I would love to hear from you. I need 32 more HSTs to be able to complete my project and I will make them up myself if everyone has already used theirs all up, but it makes the piece so much more special having all of you in my home with me.

I'm willing to trade. I don't have any HSTs to trade but am willing to offer one or two folks some of my homemade soap. I will have a new batch of tangerine bliss ready to ship next weekend. Any takers????

I'm starting to sew soon... Yay...

    Hugs,

JoJo, I have some I made. I don't know if I have 36 different ones. I think I have at least 20. Do you want doubles? Are you wanting to use these in your top for September 1? I can't get them mailed until Monday noon. If interested pm me. Shirley35

I didn't get your pm yet but I found 23 different ones. If you want doubles I can send more. Shirley

Sweet! I'm doing the 'snoopy happy dance.' I'd love to have them as long as you are sure you won't need them. My pm must have taken the horse and buggy...

I can come pick them up tomorrow or mailing them is fine too. I will have the top done tonight with the exception of the last row so I don't think it's possible to have it done by August 31, but I will have it in time for the final book due in January.

One thing I realized is that I need another design wall. My current one has another project on it so I had to design on the floor and Dillan, my spoiled baby dog, sneaks in and rolls on the HSTs every time I turn my back to sew. Then I have to stare at the design for 10 minutes to figure out which way to turn the squares again to get my pattern back! Eeck. Good thing this momma really loves this boy a little bit.

JoJo, you might want to try to get your top done for the early edition! Here is a recent message from Carol:

I know a lot of people are working very hard to get their tops together by the 9/1 deadline. I have told a few people if they are a few days late that is okay. They went to all the work and I am not going to be a stickler if they are submitted a few days late for the prototype. I have already told a few people this that have sent me emails. They want to take advantage of the Labor Day weekend so I told them it was fine. If you want you can say something on the forum. I would really appreciate it if you would!!! I don't want any one to stress out on this. It is suppose to be fun.

JoJo-take a picture of your HSTs before Dillian gets to them--then you will not have to work so hard to get it back to where you had it.

JoJo, I think you have me confused with the other Shirley. I live in Marion, Iowa. I'll be glad to mail them but I know it will take several days. Shirley35

Oops... I sure did. That would be a nice drive but would take me a while to get there!

I'll email you my addy. Thank you Shirley.

Now that would have been a great idea. Thank you for reminding me. I can do two more rows and then will only have the last row to do when the extra HSTs arrive. I really need to remember to use my camera more.

I was hoping to find out from someone how I can do 2 and 1/2" HST's in smaller numbers than 28. I don't want to make so many at a time and want to use my own stash to make neutral and patriotic colored HST"s to do some lap quilts. I have two Quilt of Valor panels for the center and some perfect fabric for the borders. If anyone knows how I can make some smaller number of HST's that are 2 and 1/2" with varied fat quarters that will go with this color scheme can you let me know. Or if anyone wants to send me some leftovers that fit this scheme I'd love them. Just no greens or wierd colors. I am not sure if I am doing any lap quilts for the quilts of valor program. The rules I think are that they have to me at least 50" by 65".
What is a typical throw size? Thanks, Jan

If you need more gridded paper you can find printable grids on the web.
                            Here's one site: http://www.blockcentral.com/a-halfsq...glepaper.shtml

Print out the paper, making sure your printer prints correctly, or use the paper you already have. Cut the squares (in whatever increments you want) on the solid line and cut your fabric slightly larger. Stitch on the dotted lines and cut exactly on the edges around your squares, as well as on any other solid lines.

                            Or use Thangles.

                              Good answer, Dwynette!

Jan, if you have been given a specific size for your charity, you really should follow their guidelines. I don't know that there is a "typical" size for a throw.

If I were making one for my sons (over 6'2") I would need a bigger one than for my MIL who is in a wheelchair and doesn't need to drag all that fabric around!

Decide how many pairs you want to stitch of each colour way - I would suggest minium of 2, or in multiples of 2, cut out that many of your hst paper, cut 2 pieces of fabric slightly larger than paper, layer, pin, and stitch as before.
