Yeah...I was able to make a lot of progress today toward getting all the HSTs ready to mailed back to their new homes. My absolutely wonderful, incredible Bee, who also helped with sorting on Monday, pitched in again today and it was unbelievable how much we got done. We worked for hours, but every hour was most productive, thank goodness. I had fears that I would be working on these things for the next month or maybe more, but my Bee wasn't about to let it happen like that. There is still a lot left to do before I get them mailed, so don't be running to your mailbox expecting them to be there in the next day or so.

Clara did take some of those that were completed on Monday nd ready to mail, so I'm sure she'll get those done as quickly as possible...in fact, she may have even been able to get to the P.O. today.

When you do receive your packages, please remember that in a perfect  world, you would be receiving the exact number of HSTs you originally sent (let's hope you counted correctly too) and each one will have the perfect value of light and med./dark fabrics, and will be cut perfectly. But this is not a perfect world, so that's not going to be the reality. Because we had so many people helping in the enormous sorting effort, that chances are pretty good that the counting may be off a little, but hopefully not a lot! Everyone tried to work & count carefully, but when you're dealing with distributing hundreds for just one person, that counting will not always be accurate. We were blessed with many helpful, warm, wonderful, and human VOLUNTEERS (please remember that word 'volunteers'), not mechanical robots who don't make mistakes    !

The packages will be sent out at various times and in no particular order. One that contains 28 can be mailed the same day as someone who sent in 700. Once again, please don't send me or Clara an email asking if your package has already been mailed because I won't be able to tell you that. I will announce on this Forum once ALL of the packages I have are gone, so be sure to check back here regularly.

Thanks again and if you haven't already, start making plans for your beautiful new HSTs that will be coming to a mailbox kinda  soon!

Though I was checking the forum days before the deadline, I was blown away by the news that sorting day was over. Guess I'm a bit dense, comes with old age. Those hats are tremendous, am tempted to fashion something similar for myself to wear to potlucks at my fitness center. I'm already known for my various hats, at least there! Edyta did start something for me and the papers for making HSTs made it easy. I muddled over doing this but as so many wonderful things have evolved with this exchange, it is the best one I've ever done. Thanks to all who made it possible; your fun loving spirit makes my day. I feel the best is yet to come from this huge group of SoTTTs.

Good news came yesterday, I'm a finalist in the top 100 Accuquilt Barn Block contest. I have a request, and it's probably not ethical to ask but here goes. I know TQS supported (and our cohosts are judging) this contest and since TQS members are so active and creative you are my competition. I don't have another sisterhood to ask to vote for me so please take a look and, hopefully, booster my ratings. My blocks are in the 4th row up from the bottom labeled Marion N. Thanks for your support. The URL that I can't get to be active!

Debbie, I'm going to assume that none of our SOTTs are going to be critical of any of the work done by you, Clara and your wonderful sorters! I appreciate all that has been done if I don't get any triangles back. Of course, I'm looking forward to receiving a few - and THANKS to all of you for all you've done. I sent you a personal e-mail, please check that and get back with me with an answer on the tissue covers. Have a happy rest of the week.

Marion I voted and I really liked your designs! I don't think campaigning is unethical. Let's be honest our elected officials do it all the time. Good Luck, Maryjo

Well, I think I am still in shock (number of HST) and awe (Clara and Debbie) over this whole undertaking!!!!! There is no way to fully explain our sorting day. There were tables.........and tables.......and envelopes.......and envelopes........and HST's............and HST's...........and HST's............etc, etc, etc!!!!!!! All that comes to mind is Holy Moly!!!!! And just where the heck was Harry Potter and his pals when we really could have used them?????? Even having been there and been a part of it, my head is still swimming!!!! The pics are great, but do not do it justice. Just thinking about what the amount of work involved gives me a head ache!!!!!! You both are to be highly commended for this undertaking. At the sorting, someone said, "what about next year"!!!! Can't even imagine doing this again!! It was great!!! Had a wonderful time, met some really neat ladies, hope to see all of you again in the future. Never imagined I would see that many HST's in a lifetime!!! Whoever brought or sent the Swiss chocolate, it was wonderful!!!!!! Didn't last long though!!!!

Once again, thank you Debbie and Clara. Our hats go off to you! Awesome!!! You have both truly earned the title "Sorting Queen".

If everyone involved in the exchange, takes what they imagine it was and is like, multiply that by 110, they will be the most patient of quilters while waiting for their package to arrive.

PS... Tell your mom hello. I tried to keep her busy. Really enjoyed talking to her!!!!

Once again, a heartfelt thank you!!!!

It was nothing Margaret - just a few days of work compared to the many hours and days of work by our leaders and you ladies who worked so hard on Sort Day. AND they aren't finished so there is more work!!! It was truly my pleasure to be a VERY small part and I appreciate all the workers more than you know.

I think if we have another exchange it should have a limit of how many HSTs and participants. Would make it easier to sort. It would be hard to limit the participants though.

i can't think how anyone could get upset  about having to wait - or about discrepancies in numbers send/received - or duplicates received
we're just SOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY :P :P :P TO BE A PART OF THIS EXCHANGE
and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THANKFUL      TO YOU ALL FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE

Ok. I know there is a great solution for this so I'll throw it out there and wait for the reply. On sorting day it became very clear to me that I can't bear to take the signature paper off the HST and not use it. I plan to do the Tree of Life pattern and use HSTs from my new world-wide friends, but how can I incorporate the treasured signature papers ? Marie suggested we use them in a collage of sorts , or maybe glue them to a piece of mat board and frame them. What are planning to do with yours?

I really have not given what to do with the papers a thought, until you mentioned it. Make a pocket on the back of the quilt and put them all in there might be one idea. If you can match up the HST paper signature with a BIO, you might want to make a quilt journal in a book or on the computer. You could journal entries with pictures as you progress at using the HST's. Document important local, national and world-wide events. I could become a bit of history.
For me, I will just sew the HSTs together, and worry about the signatures later.

I think I just scared the man at the post office. I just got back from a 2 hour visit, dropping off a bunch of packages. Don't think he would have appreciated me taking photos, so I passed on that one. Clara

Sarah, the first thing I did with my signature papers, from the batik exchange, was to pair them with the fabrics they were torn away from. At least I have a documentation of who sent what. I could print that onto fabric, and then use them on the backside of the quilt, if I chose to go that way. As for what to do with the actual papers, I'll have to think some more on that!
