What are ANZAC holidays about? I've never heard of them in the States? Love all the global knowledge we are gainign being sisters.

Thanks for sharingANZAC it is like our Vertran Day which in the USA we celebrate on November 11 each year. As this was the end of World War I it is the day we celebrate all veteran too. For me it is also the birthday of my father who was born on 11-11-1918 the end of WWI and is named Victory.

HOORAY! My HSTs arrived yesterday, but have just been able to sort them this evening. I'm not allowing myself to look at them yet; that will have to wait. I'm packing to leave for Paducah tomorrow. If I sorted correctly, I have 42 states and 9 countries represented. Missing South Korea & Panama. If anyone has a spare from one of these countries, I would like to swap. I had a whopping 74 unsigned triangles. Will do a full count when I return next weekend. Was Washington, D.C. represented? Do we have a list of the states that did not participate? If so, can someone direct me to the correct page? Thanks. Kudos again to everyone involved in the sorting. You are amazing! More next week & maybe a picture or two.

Hi,
My name is Lois and I have been following these conversations since sorting day and before. Like all of you I've been awaiting the arrival of my HST's and they finally came on Friday. They are wonderful and so are all of you.
I am new to TQS and am so happy to have found a community that loves fabric, thread and creating beautiful things from them as much as I do. I have wanted to join in the conversation but had nothing on my profile to share with all of you. You have shared so much and I didn't want to come empty handed. I am learning so many things. I love the classes and the shows and the links to so many things I want to learn about.
I joined TQS less than 2 weeks before the SOTT's exchange deadline. I saw Edytia's show and I wanted to be a part of the exchange. I wrote an email asking how to get in at the last minute and Lilo responded and got me on the right track. I had no ideal where to find The HST foundation paper but manage to find some in a store within driving distance (50 mi). I managed to get a bunch in the mail about 2 days before the deadline and now all of your HST's are in my sewing room waiting to become something. I love looking at all your ideas.
Today I finally got my picture on my Profile and managed to upload a photo of my very first quilt. I have more to share but I am having trouble uploading them. I have a Mac and am trying to upload them from iPhoto. The ones that were sucessful I was able to drag and drop but that is no longer working and I don't know where to go for help. If any one has any suggestions I'd appreciated it. Looking forward to seeing all your designs. Lois
PS. Thanks to Debbie and Clara for all their many hours of work. I just couldn't imagine how all this was going to be accomplished. I felt so much better when I found the forum and discovered how much fun everyone was having with the exchange.

 To keep my mind occupied until I receive those much-coveted precious HST's, I asked my DH, aka "Mr. Math" in our house, to help me crunch some numbers. (Sorry about not using the Metric System here.)
I told him one yard of usable fabric by my standards was 36 inches x 42 inches (I eek out every square inch I can  ), so he calculated there were 756 two-inch squares per yard which equals 1512 HST's (18 x 21 = 756 x 2 = 1512 HST's per yard).
I wanted to know how many yards of fabric made up our Final Total Count of 2-inch unpressed squares, so he divided 224,359 (Debbie's final total count of unpressed 2-inch squares) by 756 and got the staggering figure of 296.77 yards of fabric    we all collectively cut up into those little 2-inch squares not yet pressed open into HST pretties :!: ... The total number of HST's was 224,359 x 2 = 448, 718 two-inch HST's :!:
He then multiplied the number of yards (296.77) by 100 (the length of one American football field is 100 yards) which equals approximately 3 football fields in length.   Now think about all of our time, energy, and gas $$$ it took to order or get for free the paper-piecing templates, fabric search, labels, pressing, pinning, sewing, cutting, printing/adding labels, packing them up for Debbie, and mailing them.
NOW...think about what it was like for Debbie to receive approximately 3 football fields length of fabric! (which doesn't include all the extras for special sisters)!   Get the picture?
NOW...think what it was like for Clara and her crew to do the sorting...but that's another story :!:
My head hurts, my eyes are bloodshot, and I'm going to sleep now and dream about 1/2 million 2-inch HST's!

After reading the lovely messages from you all receiving your HST's and been able to see who they came from I thought I should make mention that I was one of the ones who was not able to write my name on all of mine. I did on only a handful, for reasons beyond my control as in the end it was post with name or don’t post at all, so if you have some without a name perhaps for your records you may like to put my name to one or two, I did send in 600 so it should cover just about everyone. I would be thrilled if you did this and that way it will help me not feel so sad that know one will know its ME ME ME they are adopting.....lol lol lol

Our BBQs are changing daily now... we had a pizza one last week, and that was pretty cool. But originally we all had BBQ's with sausages and steak. Generally a salad and bread rolls as well, oh and lots would say Cold Beer is a must... As the weather is generally kind to us, BBQs are the most favoured way for friends to share a meal in the great outdoors. I have only been to three so far over this Easter weekend: 1 roast, 1 fish and 1 standard sausages and steak !
Cricket is played with a bat and a ball. On the beach, it is normally played with a tennis ball. The bat is made from wood generally. There is a bowler, who throws the ball to the batter. When he hits the ball, the batter runs between the two wickets until the ball is returned to the wickets. So it is most like baseball for you, although the bat is very different, and there is only 2 wickets, so the batter runs backwards and forwards.. That is the 20 second version of cricket, and there is probably someone with much more information than me about how the game works. It is also a big English past time, the Aussie bit is the beach!

I have been busy the past few days and haven't kept up with the forum. It has taken me the past 2 hours just to catch up on this one!! Luckily things are quiet at work tonight :!: Barbara, I was laughing so hard at the squirrel story I had tears running down my face. Don't you just love it when pets bring you presents?! Margo, thank you so much for the video on pressing the HST. I managed to press far more after watching your video than I was able to do before. I have had a blast doing this. It has forced me to reorganize my sewing room to make room for the new project. It will have to wait until I finish the other 2 UFOs currently in progress.

In new friendships from Australia,
Thanks so much for welcoming me. I have received 18 HST"s that are unidentified (UHST's) and I will be sure to put your name on one of them. Since I am new to TQS and you are the 1st SOTT to respond to me I will mark one UHST's "Jilly-Australia-1st Friend" It is so exciting that you have responded from me from 1/2 way round the world.
Thank you for posting so many quilts on your profile. Like you I love to use hearts on baby quilts. I love your work. There are still BOM Kits for Star Crazy at such a good price I purchased one and am working on it now. All your posts of that work in progress are encouraging to me. I hope to have more quilts on my profile soon to share with my TQS friends. Thanks again for your kindness. Lois

Thanks so much for you offer of help on how to upload pictures of my quilts. I checked out your profile pictures and loved your quilts. I especially loved Frosty Nights. I am very curious about how that was made. I will be eager to see what you do with your HST"s. I will have some time later today to follow your advice for uploading my pictures. Thanks again!

[quote="loise98"]Hi,

Hi Lois,
Here is what I do on my Mac. Hope it helps.
Click on Upload Quilt Image then Choose File
On box the comes up on the left scroll down and choose Photos Under Media
You will then see A list of your iphoto albums and pictures underneath. Choose the album where your quilt pictures are then scroll through those until you see the one you want. Click on it then click on Choose just under the pictures.
Now when it goes back you will see the "Waiting for Image" box. Just above that is the Choose File button. To the right of it should be a File # of the picture. You will see it appear. If it doesn't do it immediately give it a minute. (Mine was pretty instant)
Now hit the "Upload Photo" and WAIT! This part took a minute or two.
Now is where you can get confused. Don't pay any attention to the buttons on the right that say "Upload image" etc. Just scroll to the bottom and choose SUBMIT.
Let me know if it works.
