Sherry, when we were around 56 participants, doing 3 different HST for each person was quite doable for most people. But, now that we will be at least 100, doing 3 different HST for each person, means we would need to make at least 300. I'm not sure everyone is up for that. I do remember, on the other thread, there was one participant that was wondering if she could enter twice, in order to get twice as many. I'm wondering how many would be up for at least two apiece for each participant, if we remain close to 100, knowing that we would still get some of our own back, because many will stick with the original one per participant? :?: :?: :?: :?:

O.K. I am getting a little confused as to what to be using on the light side. At first it seemed like it was something in the cream color family, then it looked like it went to just any light , as long as a good contrast. Then it looked like it went back to cream (with a little other color in due to the nature of batiks). I picked up some gorgeuos light batiks but now not sure I can use them. I am going to stop sewing until we get a definitive answer. Please let us know what we are to be using.

OK, please bear with me. When I first saw the Sisterhood exchange I thought I would join because it would be fun to have bits of my friends here on TQS. I am not drawn to scrap quilts but I am not opposed to them either. I thought I would wait and see what I got and then decide what to do with the HSTs.
Then when I saw the thread for "specific fabric exchange" I thought it would be fun to have an exchange for batiks of medium or dark on one side and cream/white/beige on the other so we would have good contrast. There was quite an exchange about that on the forum. That is why I like the forum--you can throw ideas out there and everyone can have their thoughts put forth. When I looked at my local quilt shops and at the large fabric stores I could not find any c/w/b batiks. They all have various other colors in them. Then Scoopie and PDQuilts reminded me that by definition batiks are more than one color.
So, I went online and found what I thought looked like a cream colored batiks when I got it home I found that it reads more yellow than cream. One of the things I have learned is that different people read color differently. My husband see the overall effect of the color not the colors that went into the fabric to make it. An artist sees many shades of green when they look at a landscape and if they want their painting to look like it has dimension (if they don't want it to look flat) they add many different greens to their painting. If we want to have movement in our quilts--we use many different shades and tones of the same color.
Now--why am I saying all of this? When I started on this journey I wanted to have a bit of fabric from my friends, that they sewed with their hands for me. You are my quilt quild, my TQS family and you have help me through some very difficult times. I wanted a square to put in a quilt that was from my friends and loved ones. If I get a square with batiks that has c/w/b cotton fabric from a lady that doesn't have the money to buy anything different--I am OK with that. If I get a square that is medium or dark with a light batik that is not c/w/b--I am OK with that. The reason I am OK with that is that I am only going to get one HST square from each person. One square is not going to ruin my quilt. In the end--I make the decision whether the square will go on the front or the back.
Ladies, we need to be kind to each other. There is enough going on in this world to try to defeat us that we don't need to defeat each other. We have already lost members of our TQS family and I wish I had a part of them. They were there for me to teach me and to encourage me. To lift me in prayer and to cry with me. They made me laugh. OK--on with the sewing.

Well said, Ritzy! Because cream batiks are difficult to find, they will be a great addition to this exchange, but if I get some HSTs that only have one med/dark batik fabric and a light value of another type of fabric, I'm certainly not going to throw it out. A purist, might, but that's her (his?) choice. I think that everyone knows what light fabrics will be good with batiks, and I don't expect to get any 30's prints, but if we do....you can choose to use it or not.
It's the spirit of the exchange that is more important to me. Let's play nice and don't sweat the small stuff.
If you would rather not receive HSTs unless they are two batiks, please let Ritzy know so she can take your name off this list. No hard feelings!
If there are enough who feel that strongly about it, please post a note on the original forum and let's see if you want to form a purists group! It would help if you could volunteer to set it up and sort those HSTs so you can make the rules that you want for that exchange. http://forum/friendship-triangle-exc...bric-exchanges
Thanks!

Yes, well said from you, as well. These are scrappy quilts and the squares will all be very happy with each other. I'll be pleased to have squares from all of you. I'm currently in a surgery family waiting to see my husband in the recovery room. The TV is reporting on the crisis in Egypt and the cyclone in Australia. We are so blessed to have the usual stability of quilting to retreat to. Thank you in advance for your friendship and prayers for my husband and the world's needs. Blessings and happy quilting, Susan

I just want to share this. I found some wonderful "Tonga Treats". They are 2 1/2" strips made by Timeless Treasures. They have some really nice cream batiks in the collection call "Meringue". I bought a package and am using Thangles to make a 2" Finished HST. This way I can have a nice selection of cream batiks and not go to a lot of expense buying a lot of cream color batik yardage. I hope this helps those that are having problems with finding cream colored batiks.

They are beautiful. Did you purchase them online or at your local quilt shop?

wow! I feel lucky. The second shop I went to had white batik. so everyone will get at least one white/dark from me.
If we are only sending one per person (I will wait for the final count after Feb. 7) I will just put the rest in with the other exchange.
If anyone wants white batik, I think there was at least 5 yards left on that bolt. You can contact the following shop to see if they do mail orders. http://www.quiltingbeespokane.com/
