I can't wait to help Debbie and Carla sort!! I got my batik exchange hst's back today - It was a thrill to open the package.

If you get a chance, go to the Batik Exchange Forum - I just posted 2 pics I took of the name labels on them which I will print and transfer to fabric to use as a part of the quilt label for this special quilt.

Barbara...we didn't have to rent a hall, one of my Bee friends works at the church and she was able to reserve it for us. Please don't think twice about not sending enough...it's your thoughtfulness that means more than how much you were able to send.

I like the idea about putting the info on the back with a transfer. Very clever, and yet tells a story. Clara

Sooooooooooooo.....when do we get to hear your version? It sounds as if you CAN practise around the horses 8)

or perhaps you should record a little chorus during SoTTTsSD lunchbreak for the rest of us

                  Hi all you wonderful sisters,
I have just returned from a trip to Brisbane and met a lady by chance and in talking she told me that she only has a roof and 4 exterior walls left of her home, she lost everything and the insurance companies are holding repairs up. In talking to her I asked if she had any linen, etc. and when I told her what we were making in Cairns and would she like a quilt - tears came into her eyes, so far I have the names of 5 special ladies who will be receiving a quilt and I know that they will be greatly appreciated. My ladies here have all been making hst's and delivering them to me. I hope your sorting day is lots of fun.
                  Cheers, Louise Vickers in Cairns.

How sad for all the families who have endured so much. It's wonderful that you will be able to touch a few with your quilts, Louise. Sounds like we might need to get some of the donated HSTs to you pretty quickly since you have so many to make. Are you making the same design for each quilt and how many HSTs are you using in each? There are a lot for you, Hanne-Grete and New Zealand. I'll see about getting some mailed this week and I'll let you know when they've been sent.

                      UPDATED PACKAGE & HST COUNT!!!!

THE APRIL 1ST DEADLINE HAS COME AND GONE!! AS OF SUNDAY, APRIL 3, I HAVE RECEIVED 551 PACKAGES CONTAINING 220,445  HSTs. I'M STILL WAITING ON ONLY NINE PACKAGES THAT ARE ALREADY ON THEIR WAY TO TEXAS. ONE MAJOR HURDLE PASSED, NOW THE SORTING AND MAILING HURDLE IS WAITING IN THE WINGS.

THAT SHOULD PUT THE FINAL COUNT AT 560 PACKAGES, BUT WHO KNOWS HOW MANY HSTs. DOESN'T LOOK LIKE WE'LL MAKE THE QUARTER MILLION MARK AND AMAZINGLY ONLY ABOUT 10% OF MEMBERS WHO ORIGINALLY SIGNED UP DID NOT PARTICIPATE.

SADLY ROSEMARY'S IS STILL TRYING TO FIND IT'S WAY TO TEXAS. IT MUST HAVE TAKEN AN UNSCHEDULED SIDE TRIP AROUND THE WORLD BEFORE HEADING HERE. HOWEVER, CONSIDERING HOW LONG IT TOOK FOR MAUREEN'S TO GET HERE FROM SCOTLAND, I'M STILL CONFIDENT THEY WILL NOT BE LATE FOR THE 'PARTY'. NOT TO WORRY, ROSEMARY, WE'LL TAKE CARE OF YOU NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS WITH THAT ELUSIVE LITTLE BUGGER   !! [/color]

What an amazing HST exchange this has been...with only 10% of the original folks not participating and we still made it over the 220,000 mark! WOW! Hope we didn't lose any of our original guys who were brave enough to sign up with us! Debbie, you're the absolute best person we could have managing this part of the exchange. Thank you for all of your conscientious hard work! Good show!

 P.S.: Clara is the other half of this "dynamic duo," and she has her work cut out for her too. Many thanks to both of you and your generous people who are all making this wonderful exchange possible! Muchas gracias also to Margo for all of her "educational/instructional" quilting help. You guys are all terrific!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Shirley. It's be a fun and interesting ride, but we're only half-way there now. Thank goodness I have Clara helping, too. She has been a blessing!

Thanks Debbie and Clara (and all the others) for all your hard work and yes sending them in separate lots would be good, I am planning on starting over Easter with what I have here, at least getting 1 or 2 done, the tops that is, before I get all the ladies together for working bees. I have printed out some designs and bought Edyta's books and plan on letting each lady choose a design, keeping them as simple as possible so to finish as soon as possible. The need is becoming urgent as it is now Autumn down south (Fall to you) and cooler nights are coming. I still have 2 little girl quilts to finish before then for my precious nieces so I had better get on with it.
                            Love to all,
                            Louise

[b]BVD is a brand of men's underwear, which are commonly referred to as "BVDs." BVD stands for Bradley, Voorhees & Day, the New York City firm that initially manufactured underwear of this name for both men and women. BVD is now only for men. It was founded in 1876 and named for its three founders.
