Superior thread came this morning, already have Ecyta's papers and I went to a quilt show in Largo, Fl. yesterday and bought more Batiks to mix. I am now ready to sew!!! One question, how many HSTs do we put in each baggie??

I'm not sure how many HST's you'll be sending, but you don't need to put a particular number into baggies, but if you're sending multiple baggies, do write how many are in each bag. If you do want to separate them into lunch size baggies would advise 28 or 56 in a bag.

VERY, VERY. VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING INTERNATIONAL PACKAGES!!!

We now have access to a PayPal account and that will be the ONLY form of payment that will be accepted for International return postage. Because of the extreme complications involved with dealing with International Reply Coupons. we will not be accepting them for return postage.

In a couple of days, Mon. Jan. 31 or Tues. Feb 1, please check on the 1st Post on this Forum for more information on how you can use PayPal. The cost to mail the Small International Flat Rate box or envelope is $13.95 US (each will hold approx. 300 neatly packaged HSTs). There will also be a minimal extra charge from PayPal that will vary by amount paid. Once you've completed your payment thru the PayPal account, you will need to make a copy of the receipt and include it in your shipment to me. You will need to carefully determine what size flat rate box will need to be used to return your package. If you underestimate, we'll have to contact you to make another payment to cover the excess cost.

PayPal will not be available for U.S. members since it's not an issue figuring out the postage costs and sending that amount of postage in with your HSTs. I highly recommend that you look into using Domestic Flat Rate boxes to again simply things for all of us. It is probably a lot more cost effective than sending Priority or Regular 1st class packages.

I am so grateful that this method of payment is now available. It will be much less complicated for everyone involved with shipping Internationally.

I too have just made my first set of HST's using Edyta's paper. I love it! I am looking forward to making a lot more. (But first I get to go have lunch with my grandson and I love that too.) I am enjoying picking out fabric for the exchange - I just hope others like my choices. This is the first exchange I have participated in in a long time and am excited about it. A big thank you to our organizers.

Ladies and Gentlemen: You really really do need to send me an email letting me know that you've mailed your package. That way I can let you know that I received it without having to look you up in the Forum. You should also include your screen name & the # of HST's on the outside of the envelope or mailer. I received three packages today and I had only been notified that one of them was on it's way.

We are going to be receiving so many packages in the next several weeks that unless you notify me, I can't notify you I received it. It's easy to do...just click on View My TQS Profile under my picture and send it from there. Please don't use the Private Messaging since I need to keep those emails in a separate folder.

My blocks are sewn and I'm in the process of cutting them. I found that placing the ruler with the line showing gave me the best cut. It actually splits the line down the middle. I'm using a 1x12 Olfa ruler. My paper has line widths of 1 pt. If yours are a different width this may not work for you. On the longer side I cut halfway then slide the ruler to the end. Be sure to hold the ruler tight on the last block by moving your hand to the end of the ruler or it could shift. And if you have short arms you may want to bring the sheet toward you in order to reach that far. It's taking me about 8 minutes to cut each sheet. I made some extra sheets last night so I can keep my "less than perfect" blocks for myself and maybe get a head start on my quilt if I should so choose. And I wanted to try out a new paper design. I draft my own paper. They're all printed on the same vellum so you won't know the difference except that the bunny ears will be gone when the cutting is finished.

I'm excited to play with the Sisterhood and I don't want to do anything wrong or make it more difficult for anyone. And I tend to be a visual person.

Is there a picture posted somewhere that shows what a properly prepared half-square triangle looks like? Cut apart and not pressed open with the city, state/province/etc., country written on the paper... Included in the same photo could be a labeled baggie and the labeled sending envelop/package and the self addressed return envelope/package with postage...

I kind of want to take a picture of what I'm doing and say: Is this right?

Hi, Keith! We're all excited that you've joined our exchange. We don't have any pictures posted yet (in fact, I'm not even sure how to post on the forum) but as long as you sew them and cut them correctly you should be good to go...and you're absoluty right, not pressed open and no papers removed!! As far as writing on the papers, there's no rules except to use a pencil or a pen that doesn't bleed thru to the fabric. If you want to add an address label instead of doing all that writing, that's find too. Rewatch Edyta's show too, #802. That will help a lot.

As far as the baggies, try to use one that you can write on, like a freezer bag and just include your screen name & how many are in the bag. You can put them all in one bag if they fit...quart, gallon...whatever fits. On the mailing envelope, also write your screen name and number of HST's somewhere...the back is fine! If you're package is too large for an envelope and will require a box, I'll also have return boxes on hand. Just include a return label back to you and make sure to include sufficient postage. Your local post office can also assist. Consider a small or medium Domestic Flat Rate box for sending them in and for postage to return to you. If you want to take a picture and send it to me by email, I'll be happy to take a look.

One more thing, be sure to send me an email letting me know you've mailed your package to me. That way I can let you know when it arrives!

I'm not an international participant, but I think someone needs to ask the local Post Office in Texas how to use the international coupons being mentioned.

I'm pretty sure that it will be EXPENSIVE for the return postage to be purchased that way, and potentially not even usable because of the difference between a letter and a package.

There must be some way for International participants to pay the US equivalent of the $14.95 or $27.95.

I have a PayPal account, and would be happy to take these CC payments - I need to test out the fees.

If this would make a difference, I would be happy to provide that service. One of the organizers can contact me offline (mailto:detter01@gmail.com) to look into it.

And - I've finished 2 of my sheets - I think I'll do the entire 25 sheets.

Dorietter, thanks so much for your very generous offer to use your PayPal account. We do have access to a local PP account and we were trying to figure out all the logistics before we posted anything. We're getting everything set up now and we've already posted that we will have that as our payment-of-choice on 1st Forum post and somewhere town the end of this thread.

Keith, have you watched the video this month with Edyta? She shows you the construction and the end result I believe you are looking for. Besides that she also shows some wonderful examples of quilts using HSTs. Clara

Cutting your sewn papers into 2 sections crosswise before cutting off the outer edges gives you more manageable size pieces for cutting. You don't have to reach so far and that last block is easier to cut accurately. I had half of mine cut before realizing this.

I am adding a strip of both fabrics on the outside of each bag so that it will maybe make it easier for the sorting process.
