"Bells on their toes" and look who I met!!

I know I can't (and don't want) to compete with Rita's YouTube video, but here goes......

We were talking about the phrase 'bells on their toes' and just a few days later, look what I saw at the AGM of the British Quilters Guild in Nottingham today:

These bells (and the traditional wooden clogs) were worn by a group of Morris Dancers. Just look at the great costumes. Difficult to take a picture because they were moving all the time.

And then, just to make my day perfect (forget about quilting!) look who I met:

My signature is perfect for this post. And before anybody makes any cheeky comments.... No, I didn't take Robin home with me.

Marilyn, Morris Dancing is so very English. I bet Rosemary can tell us all about it, but here is a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y95Y74xUI2E that gives you a flavour.

          Margo beat me to it.

Regrets???? No, Renata. Now if he would have brought his dad along........ Those two youngsters were actually delightful. It's lovely to see that old traditions are kept alive.

And this particular event takes place every year, about 25 minutes from my house by subway.

I really need to go to bed instead of having fun investigating 'bells' and Morris Dancers across the globe. So this is my last word on this tonight, an article from the paper which I find quite amusing:

I'm so glad that people keep these old traditions going and share them. Sometimes I wish we could all blend into one and get along with each other but also keep our cultural traditions alive. I guess I can't have it both ways. All those ugly past hurts and prejudices want to come along too.
                          I loved the dancing videos!

I'll send a link to my mate Jane. That's her at the back with dark hair. Where are the fabric daffodils Jane???

What have you been doing today Lorchen. Was the outing to Chatsworth?

Great photos Lorchen. You can compete with me anytime, I don't mind! Morris dancing is so close to all traditional European dances that they have to all be related (including Irish dancing - the traditional set dancing, not the fake curly hair and OTT dresses stuff they do in those competitions.) Loved all the youtube links, thanks everybody. Dancing is fun, we all need more of it in our lives.
