My first job was babysitting. When I started college, I started working for Longs Drug Stores. I did that for four years and then got married and became a stay at home mom. But as most stay at home moms find out, you're not home much. We had 3 kids in 3 years and when the youngest started kindergarten, I started volunteering in the school so I was there a lot. I loved being able to stay home with them. Several years after moving to Texas, we started volunteering at a local theatre. That has spread to several other theatres and a job as a house manager at one of them. My favorite shows are the school shows where we have thousands of kids come to the theatre on a field trip to see either the symphony or the Nutcracker. Now I have a new job - Grandma. Our DD has blessed us with a wonderful grandson and we live close to them and I love that.

I for one could not function without my glasses, in my job as a hairdresser I could not have seen the client in the mirror.
I have worn them since I was 17 and am now 73. I wonder how many pairs I have bought over the years?
Whatever our jobs in our lives we all make the world go round.

In between, I joined the military, first the Amy Reserve, then the Air National Guard. I graduated from college with a degree in history, but I didn't want to teach. Met DH Mike at the base, and we moved with our wing to the Hudson Valley in 1983. I've always told people I have the attention span of a gnat, but the one thing I stuck with was the Air National Guard. I stayed in for 23 1/2 years.

This has been so fun to read all the posts. What an amazing group of TQS members. With all the talent, it is no surprise this site is full of wonderful quilters and crafters. Well, here is a little bit about me. I have a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Accounting. I was one of the technology fore runners for the Shazam Network. I was the designer and the developer for the networks settlement and billing systems. In the early 80's the ATM and POS technologies were on the cutting edge and I had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of this exciting EFT industry for the Shazam Network. Using a debit card back then was a new adventure. We think nothing about it today. I have worked as an IT project leader and programmer for about 15 years before I went to work with my husband at our veterinary clinics. He needed a business manager and I fit the requirements. I get the opportunity to do much more and have a very exciting and rewarding job. I get to work with the animals. I assist with all kinds of surgeries and have the joy of wearing many hats. Every day is different and full of the unexpected. We do both large and small. We have two clinics, one is for the large animals... cows, bulls, pigs, horses, etc. and the other is for the small ones, mostly cats and dogs. But I have a lot of other interests besides animals and quilting. I enjoy classic cars and tractors. My Dad taught me everything I know. I restored a 1962 T-Bird Sport Roadster when I was 16. What a thrill that was. I still have the car today. I also have a 1966 2+2 Mustang Fastback. It was my college car and I held onto it and am so glad I did. I also have a interest in antique tractors and enjoy going on tractor rides in the summer time. I have a TO-30 Ferguson, of 1954 vintage. With the barn quilt popularity it is fun to ride at a nice enjoyable pace on a tractor ride and experience the beautiful country side and the wonderful old barns with their trademark quilts proudly displayed. I also enjoy plucking a little tune every now and then on my guitar. So I guess this is me in a nutshell. I just love enjoying life and new experiences.

Barn quilts sound fascinating, I've not heard of that before. Will google it
Must be fascinating living with a vet but I would imagine also hard hearing the stories.
I wanted to be a lion tamer. I never made it but it did get me my place in nurse training. I've been a general nurse, midwife, paediatric nurse then when the children came I worked in a local hospital short hours and have stayed with the elderly now leading therapy teams in the community. Love it part clinical and part management but roll on Jan 6 2015 when I retire and Quilt :P :P
In between jobs I've been a shorthand typist, receptionist, invoice clerk etc., my mum said I needed something to fall back on. I used a lot of tippex in the good old days  Best stick to nursing.

Neat idea Margo - what a fun thread!
Loved fiber and fiber arts for as long as I can remember. Learned to sew on my Mother's converted treadle sewing machine. Took Home EC classes in Jr/Sr High and took some fashion design/pattern design classes in college. Enjoyed making clothing for myself and our three children, designing square dance costumes, prom dresses and even shirts for my husband. Caught the quilting bug in the mid 90's.
DH and I spent our beginning years in and around Anchorage Alaska. Returning to the Seattle area before our oldest DD was born. We lived in and around Seattle until moving to Southern California in 1999.
I was a stay at home Mom while our children were young, working PT as they got a little older then FT as the youngest started Jr High. I've been an Admin Assistant the past 30 years, I plan to retire for the second time this Fall.

I do have one question - how do I add a profile picture?
