    2012 UGH

So what shall we do with ourselves this year in the Unable to Go to Houston club?

We could attempt another go at pass the parcel (picture) and see if we can do it better than the last attempt

Can you ecplain more, Rosemary? I'm not going this year; I'll need something after the hurricane to keep me sane.

Eileen, you and Mike stay safe! Tell him I send a big TQS hug to both of you!

My brothers and their families are battened down in Norfolk Virginia. High tide tonight may be a problem. This is what they got this morning and it will be higher tonight. Yes....there is a dock under that water!! And the water is usually about 4 feet below the lowest part of the dock, by the boat.

And a local restaurant gives new meaning to waterfront seating!

http://forum/the-quilt-shows-discuss...ow-mothers-day somewhere on this thread, whilst we were having Lorchen's birthday party we tried to play pass the parcel with a picture, but it all went ever-so-slightly wrong,  I'll try & re-post directions tomorrow, it is bed time for me now.

Prayers for all on the US East Coast ( sounds like a good idea to get over to the west coast asap, somewhere near Houston should be good  if I've got that bit of geography right)

Well, not sure the West Coast was any better today... British Columbia, Canada, had a 7.7 earthquake triggering a tsunami warning for part of the coast as well as Hawaii, and Los Angeles had a 3.9 (small but nevertheless a quake) shaker shortly after BC.

The winds have started picking up here and it is raining but nothing more serious is supposed to happen until at least tomorrow afternoon. From Virginia to Connecticut (maybe even Massachusetts--haven't heard yet), schools will be shut down for the next two days, Federal Government has shut its office in DC minus essential personnel, a lot of transportation--trains, subways and flights (several thousand flights) have already been cancelled for the next two days, low lying areas in New York City have been subjected to forced evacuation as well as many coastal zones in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey... We've basically battened down the hatches for the next two days and then we'll be ready for cleanup. Don't know if we'll have power so some of us may be quiet for a few days... but will pipe up as soon and as often as possible! Lois, I am so sorry but this is just not looking so good for you... I was truly hoping you would get to Houston--I hope it is still possible for you! I think the worst part of this hurricane events will be when it lashes up with the arctic front just before making landfall--some places will get snow and others will experience big surges along the coastline and inland flooding.

            Sweet dreams, Rosemary!

Thanks, Margo, and I offer my best wishes to everyone affected that you be safe as Hurricane Sandy, also called by some reporters Frankenstorm, approaches.

OMG Renata, it sounds like that movie 'The Day After Tomorrow'! I hope everybody stays safe, dry and warm. I wish there was a magic bus to get Lois to Houston, like this one:

Right now outside does not look any different than what I imagine a dreary, rainy day in Co. Wicklow, or East Yorkshire or Derbyshire to look like--I'm just going to have to visit to confirm that impression! The wind, however, has picked up significantly and while the hurricane is still several hundred miles away, there has already been damage to the coastal areas north of here. I don't expect the excitement to start until 2-4 pm EST in this area. Love the bus, Rita! Lois, you need to hop on!!!

Step 1: Post 'I've got it' - only one person can have it at a time!
Step 2: right click on the photo, then click 'save picture as' (put it some where you can find it easily!)
Step 3: open the picture in your favourite picture editing program and add to the picture (try not to completely obliterate all that has gone before)
Step 4: re-post your newly enhanced picture. Title your post 'available' Try not to take too long between your first and second posts.

Now is everyone sitting comfortably? and we'll begin....
mac users - your on your own for a programme on how to manipulate the picture. Windows users you can do stuff to it using Paint, which is found under the accessories button. Make sure you save the picture as a jpeg & change the title a bit or you will lose the original (unless you don't mind losing the original that is  )
