    Colorado Wildfires

I know we have many members and other quilters we know who live in Colorado and....Ricky & Justin, of course! I am concerned for all of you who may be in the areas where the wildfires are. I've been watching the news everyday to keep up with the progress of fighting the fires. To all of you in the area, I have you in my prayers and thoughts. Could some of our Colorado members update us here in the Forum as to how things are going? I live in North Carolina so the news updates we get are from CNN and the network news media - I'm just concerned for all of you!

Hi Becky, I am far away from the forest fires in Ireland but Sharon (sewangel) has been blogging about it. Check it out in the member blogs. Her parents were evacuated, allowed to go home after a few days and then re-evacuated again. I wish I could send the rain from here!

my ears were burning, no pun intended and I thought I would help Becky out. As of now there are 8 wildfires burning in Colorado and 5 on, what we call the front range. That is where the mountains slope down to the plains. We are about 40 miles east of the High Park Fire and north of the new really bad one burning in Colo. Springs about 90 miles. The new one is terrible and they evacuated 11,000 people from an entire town. My mom and stepdad are back with us, but the fire took a really bad turn on Saturday and we have two friends who both lost their mountain cabins. They at least have homes to live in. My parents home is still there, thankfully. I didn't want to bore the TQSers any more on the blog with the details. The High Park fire has burned over 80,000 acres and got 250 homes. Pretty bad. Thank you dear TQS friends of your concern and thoughts. It is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, TQS members for your concerns. We have over half of the nations firefighters now in Colorado. Our weather has not been very good to us this year- strong winds and record heat. Lightning has started most of these fires, and there are a lot of pine beetled dead trees in our forests.

            For all who believe:
PLEASE, a prayer chain for rain! [kindly w/o the destructive lightning]

FYI... whenever you want to know what is going on in another state- try Google. 'Colorado wildfires', for example.

My son and family live in Colorado Springs and he sent me a photo of the smoke plume from one that started Saturday. Said it was not too far from where we stayed in an RV park near Old Colorado City in May. Fires can be scary - we went through that here in California in 2008 when there were many lightning caused fires. One came close but didn't reach us, but burned through our friends property less than five miles away. Luckily their home was safe. Let's hope the weather in Colorado cooperates and the winds die down so the firefighters can get some control of the fires.

Agreed. In fact, when I didn't hear more I was wondering. I was glad for the update.

Here in the UK we don't have such problems, it must be terrifying

                            Hi all,

Thanks for all of your concern. I live in Colorado Springs. The Waldo Canyon fire, thank goodness is not currently near any homes. It is only at this time 5% contained. We do have an incredible number of fire fighters working to keep it from structures. With the daily temperatures in the high 90s (very unusual for June) and lots of wind, things are still very unsettling.
