    UGH - 2011

Especially for Loise98, and anyone else who is at home & wishing they were at Houston.

To get the ball rolling, it is not quilting, but it is out of fabric. My daughter had a dress as a book character day at school today and she chose to be Maria Merryweather from the book

The cloak (cassack) is from my Civil War re-enactment, but I made the skirt with frilly petticaots adapted from a flamenco costume, bonnet and re-covered the rabbit fur muff last night. It is great to be in the possession of a large and varied stash, and a wide ranging understanding of how garments go together and how different shapes combine together to make the right feeling look.

I seem to be back on hats again

Rosemary, How delightful! Did you make the hat too? I am deeply involved in getting my home reorganized because I just retired and am improving my work space so I can work nearly full time on my fabric arts. But I will say this past week and the week before me are all taken up with moving things around and reorganizing. I bought a Bernina 830 and a nice cabinet for it rather than go to Houston.

Rosemary, you've just done it again. Impressed me, I mean . What wonderful skills you have.

Sewdreamy, you will enjoy your new work space so much, that you almost forget about Houston.

Yes, the bonnet was a ribbon, two pieces of fabric and a piece of softish cardboard at 7pm last night. I am glad to report that the card went under the machine without any problems at all, although I will probably replace the needle for the next project. Never attempted this style before, but I look at pictures of clothing & costume a lot, and had a go, the crown provided the bigest argument, but I won in the end

Next project, clear off my work table - again

I've been following your work space saga with interest - have you re-discovered any treasures that you had forgotton about in your re-arranging?

I'd like to offer something a lot simpler for UGH: The words say "My Stash is Full of Treasure - Now all I need is Time!"
The cross stitch design is by a lovely Canadian designer.
I was born in the Chinese year of the dragon. So it's very appropriate for me.

As with a lot of my pieces: Needs a little more quilting.

Wow, that's really impressive. I love the hat!

Yes, I have been finding treasures all along the way. I am increasingly realizing how blessed I am...and how exciting it will be to work in my newly redone workspace once it's complete. I have a wonderful library of quilt and sewing related books and magazines collected over many years, which I have almost finished purging down to the things I really want to keep and giving them some order so I can find stuff. I have a fabulous stash of both quilting and fashion fabrics also collected over the years, a very nice collection of notions and tools, and my work space is going to be delightful. I can't thank my two sons and wonderful DIL enough for how much they have helped and inspired me in figuring out how things need to be...but I still have a ton of stuff to do before I finish the reorg. It's pretty exciting though. I would love to have some of my TQS buddies drop by and spend some time once it's done. Though you would have to spend the night at the hotel down the road because I'm using up all my guest spaces in this. (I live in a mid-sized townhome). But there is one just about a mile from here.

Who knows? It's her 10th birthday next April, that will be the next creative planning hurdle  , apart from working out how to make a rabbit skin lined hat in the next few weeks, which should have been made for last winter, but I chickened out ops: & it would have been ideal considering how much snow we had last year! I am in deep trouble with her dad for not getting it done, especially as he shot & tanned the rabbits - they tasted good though!

Rosemary, love the costume! You are so talented. Before you know it you will be making formal gowns for her. Here we have 2 or 3 formal dances a year when the students are in high school. (Grades 9-12) They also think they can't wear the same dress twice, but sometimes swap with friends.

Lorchen I loved your dragon too.

Betty Jo, I wish I lived close. I would love to stop by and see your new space.
I have been busy reorganizing too. Is it something in the air this time of year? I am trying to dig out all of my newer purchases so I can see what I have. Now it is stashed here and there where it won't be detected. Oh well, he has to find out sometime. It is an illness after all. Isn't it??? Uncurable too???

I have started collecting china tea cups too, so if anyone is close, please stop by for a cup of tea. Tea is always better shared!

Put the kettle on, Cathy! I'll start walking........ It's just over 7000 miles. Ooops.... forgotten one little problem: Would have to swim the Atlantic. Where is The Enterprise when you need to get beamed to somewhere?? Ah well, off to bed...
