Off topic: Packing for two weeks -- too much stuff!!

I'm packing for a two week business trip, leaving tomorrow, right when the weather may or may not change from Summery to Fallish, and requiring business casual and dressy, jackets and sweaters, raincoat and umbrella.

Fortunately, I am not flying or I'd really be in trouble...there's so much stuff. ops: I usually can, but this time I can't figure out what to leave behind. Because I don't know anyone else who is going and have a weekend, I'm also taking my travel iron, my little camera, my new Kindle, my mini DVD/CD player with a selection of discs, and my GPS (thank goodness things are so much smaller than they used to be) casual walking and dressier shoes. Am I a geek or what?!!!   If I had a compact sewing machine, I'd probably take that along too.

One week is easier! Maybe it's better when I DO have to fly, then I make myself pare things down, but it could be really hard to do on this one.

AREN'T THERE ANY LAUNDRY facilities where you are going? I have travel clothes that are easy to wash and dry of jersey. They can also be mix and matched to make different looking outfits... They wash and dry quickly. I sometimes buy things while on my trip; then ship them home. Fed EX is cheaper than extra baggage charges.

Yep, I checked, there is a laundry not far from there, so I reduced my pack by half and beefed up on the quarters. I used to do a lot of travel all over the world. I've been known to do a whole month on one suitcase, but my packable/handwashables have mostly worn out or look tired. I didn't want to make a big investment in new clothes when what I have will be great for this event. Thanks for the suggestion of finding a laundry near/in my hotel before I leave. Don't know why I felt like sharing this with you all...guess I was just overwhelmed yesterday with sorting it all out. Have a great couple of quilty weeks all! Cheers, BJ

Betty Jo, cut down on the entertainment. I used to take all sorts of things (books, cassettes, knitting, etc....) and never got around to using any of it. These days I take one paperback book, and that's it. And I make sure everything co-ordinates with black, so I only need black shoes, trousers, socks, handbag. I also fill a few labelled small plastic bottles (lighter than glass) with necessary cosmetics, rather than taking big bottles of things like shampoo for example. If I take large bottles I make sure there is not much left in them and I throw them away when packing for the return journey. When I go on holiday with my two grown-up sons, my luggage always takes up less space than theirs. They blame the size of their shoes.

I always blame being a Girl Guide(Scout, for my American friends) for packing too much! That "Be Prepared" motto kills me every time!

Do you mean you really can leave a sewing machine for two weeks? I haven''t been able to do that since I got my last machines, and my laptop.Of course, there's always shop hopping to fill in the fabric need. do you have your sketch pad? I can totally fill a car on a 4 day weekend.

   Fear not. I have found a little time in my business schedule and located the local quilt shop. I am on location now and got all my stuff here, including my electronics (which I consider essential for any good trip--in fact I think I'd rather have fewer clothes than fewer electronics on a business trip). Hehehe. Later, my quilting friends. cheers, BJ
