Does anyone know how high a cutting table should be for one's back? I have been making convergence quilts and bending over the table has put quite a bit of strain on my back! I'm thinking of putting some wooden blocks under the legs to make it higher, but I was wondering if there is a rule of thumb for this.

I posted this in a different part of the forum, but will repeat it here for our new friend. I attended a lecture some years ago that discussed ergonomics for quilters. Your cutting table and your ironing board should be 4 inches below your elbow when your arm is bent at a 90 degree angle. Your sewing machine should be at a height so that it is on the same level as your arm when bent at a 90 degree angle, so your arm just rests on the table without strain either up or down. It's just amazing what a difference having your work surfaces at the right height can make.

I always click on the "view posts since last visit" option at the top right hand side of the Forum page, under the My Account tab on the purple bar. It then shows me all the topics that have been posted on since my last trip to TQS.
