I need a better black fabric

Black is one of my favorite colors to use in quilts. I love the way it spices things up.
Here's my problem - I am currently working on my TQS BOM and I have not been able to find a really good black fabric for hand applique. I cannot seem to find one that has a nice close weave - Kona just does not have enough threads per inch - all my shapes shred a lot. Timeless Treasures black is a little bit better but still not good enough.
Does anyone out there know of a solid black that has a nice tight weave and perhaps the "hand" of Moda fabrics?
All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried Michael Miller's black?

Moda has a good solid black. You might also try stay-stitching around your shape, close to the stitching line. It helps keep the raveling in check.

KeepsakeQuilting.com has an "Amish Black" that I love. I've never appliqued with it, though. I actually just ordered some more this weekend, so when it gets here, I'll try a little applique and tell you how it does...

I have over 8 yards of a black batik that would work for you! It is truly black. Sorry, I don't recall the manufacturer. I love black and always look for nice ones, then stock up!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will begin looking for some of the fabric you've mentioned.
Brita - I like the idea of stocking up when I find something. I can see it now...an entire shelf in my stash for black fabric.

One issue of Mark Lipinski's Quilter's Home magazine had a piece on blacks, tested by his "posse" for things like color-fastness, black-ness, and fraying. Can't recall which issue, but there haven't been that many of them so it shouldn't be hard to find.

This may work for you...... Robert Kauffman, Ultra Sateen, 100% Cotton.
I just bought some in white. All the other fabrics I looked at were so thin!
