IT IS DONE!!!!
The quilt that my dear sweet child donated for me is done. It is a little bigger then a crib blanket. It is very bright and colorful. I was going to stitch in the ditch but then I thought  I should make him work on it too. So we tied it. Yep and I mean WE meaning mainly HE what a shock for him. Do you know that wasn't part of our deal? I didn't know we had a deal. :?: Sewing is for "girls :!: " I will remind him of that the next time he needs a repair done to something. 8) Well then I showed him my new quilt book. He asked if I could make him one. Nope but I will help him make his own. He'll get back to me. My 10 year old is all for it. We are going to pick out fabric this weekend. For him and his little girl friend.Tags: None

Rachel and Florence, go to the "Stories" page and scroll all the way to the bottom to 12 Days of Christmas. Have your guys check out the handsome young man on the far right in the photo. That's my youngest son who has been sewing and quilting since he was in junior high school. He is now a respected engineer who designs great big foundry complexes! He was in junior high when I got my first Bernina, and it was several days before I could use it because he was BIZZY making me a sampler with every decorative stitch that the machine would make, and then he started a quilt!
Tell the boys to enjoy their sewing! Joshua does!

A light at the end of the tunnel!!! some days I just feel like it's a train....
I got my Bernina for Mother's day last year, had my guide classes over the summer, and had to come home from each and teach George what I had learned! He likes my Bernina, but wants one of his own... I keep telling him he CAN have his own... when he's old enough to buy it!!

Margo, your family is beautiful! And that Christmas quilt is beautiful, too! Now I have discovered a whole new part of this web site I haven't used - the "Stories" section!!! :-)
Although my son doesn't make quilts, he knows how to run a sewing machine better than my daughter. He's been known to make a stuff bag for a sleeping bag or other other practical items like that :-)

Thanks, Sherry! If you will notice, the last post on that page was several months ago. I think that the interest in the Member Blogs has sorta taken it's place!
When Joshua was in college he wanted a costume to wear to a Renasiannce (sp) festival, but didn't have access to a machine up there, so he MADE IT BY HAND!!! I asked him where he got the pattern, and he said he just laid a tee shirt on the floor and used it as a pattern! Sometimes he just amazes me!
He is 6'4" tall and has a thimble that's as big as a shot glass!!!
LOL!!

My dh is not a quilter...yet  However he has dabbled in embroidery and a few years ago cross stitched a sheet and pillow set for our then newborn son. I have a picture of him working on the sheet here somewhere, I'll post it in my profile if I can find it again. Anyway, it is just so funny to see this bear of a man (former powerlifter, state deadlift record holder in his class in 1995) sitting there working with a needle that practically disappears in his hand on something as dainty as a cross stitch. He says he finds it very calming. Recently I have been inspired by TQS to take that sheet and turn it into a wholecloth quilt to give our son later as an heirloom - something he can give his future wife and say "BOTH my parents made this for me."

Well I just returned home from the craft store. I picked up some maerial for my Elijah (10) and some for his lilltle girl friend (9). I also picked out some flame and skull material for Alex(14). Elijah is home and loves his. It has all kinds of colors on it. He wants a cosmic bowling bedroom so I figured most of his will probably be aplique. Alex's room is dragons. So the skulls and flames will fit right in.

One of my most favorite pictures of Joshua is of him hand stitching the binding on the car quilt that he designed and made!
Yeah! I'm proud!

Before I was a quilter, back when my sons were young, I taught both of them to sew. I had them make themselves a pot holder, a pair of shorts, a knit shirt, and a gym bag. They did wonderful jobs, both of them. But now they are grown men, they don't admit they ever touched a machine. Still...my oldest seems to know what my daughter in law needs for her new quilt studio he's outfitting for her (he's a marvelous woodworker), and my youngest has some wonderful ideas when I show him my quilts. It wasn't wasted. Who knows, they may eventually be drawn in....LOL

I don't think I can squeeze anything else in before June, but I'll at least help pass the word....
so folks go check the stories... and while you're at it, think about submitting one of YOUR storiesFlorence
