Seen the quilt guessed the pattern

I seen a quilt while on vacation a while ago and took a cell phone photo as we drove by.This way I would remember to look for the pattern. I haven't found the pattern. But, I think I have figured out how it goes. Mind you I had to embellish a little here and there. We were after all going 60 mph down a bumpy road. I find it amazing I could tell it was a quilt at all. Anyway I have figured out that it works as a log cabin quilt, followed by some applique. My question is, how do I give credit where credit is due? I feel that the original quilt should be named but I have no idea where that town was except Pennsylvania. Also I feel I am obligated to give credit to the original creator of the quilt. I want to enter the quilt when it is finished in a contest and really do not want to find out my quilt is a copy infringement.

Hi Rachel, How in the world are you ? Missed seeing you around here !

It's hard to give attribution when you don't know the creator. Have you tried Google Images and searched for log cabin + applique to see if you might find it ?

If it was just a log cabin variation, then I would think it would be so common a pattern that it's essentially a public domain pattern. The applique, however, may be the unique creation of the quilter.

This is a tricky one since you want to enter it in a contest. Has any of your searching helped you find something similar enough that you could use that, and then have an author to seek permission to use or give credit to ?
