    half square triangle basket

My great grandmother made a wonderful red and white quilt with baskets which were half square triangle alternating red and white with a curved handle. It is similar to the old fashioned baskets with the base that is a four sided shape narrower at top basket is wider toward the top and then has a curved handle but most of the designs are solid not the half square triangles. I saw it in a quilt catalog last Nov. and then didn't write the company down (the of course I will remember that name syndrome that never works) The quilt we had was so well worn that I cut it apart and made pillows and wall hangings for the family so I have a piece of the original but would like to replicate the whole quilt. (My one traditional ambition ) so if any of you know the pattern I am looking for I would appreciate any help and will certainly pay to have a pattern mailed to me if someone has one that they are willing to share (or sell for a reasonable price that works too)

Thanks Ann (the quilt is often shown blue and white in pictures I have seen but GR. Grandma loved red and white)

I think Grandma used templates that were not very accurate I have tried drafting it and just cant seem to get it right. Will try again if I don't find a pattern I just kick myself for not writing down the source when I saw it. Memory not what it used to be and I better just get it through my thick skull but thanks for the advice and like I say will try it.

I know this isn't what you are looking for, but the baskets use half-square triangles. It's Eleanor Burns "Grandmother's Garden Quilt." I have the book.. However, there are appliqued flowers in the baskets. There is a block in EQ6, but the handle is appliqued.

Ann, post a picture of the basket and I'll see if it's in my Brackman's Encyclopedia. Also give us the size of the block--maybe one of us can draft it for you.

Ann, Last year I did a block of the month from the book Women of Design: Quilts in the Newspaper, by Barbara Brackman. Several of the blocks were like you discribe. Each block in the book is a different basket and many are made with half sq. triangles (some are squares, etc.) They were, however, quite large blocks. NA
