    The Early Bird Quilt Pattern

I'm searching for a copy of a pattern called The Early Bird Quilt, by Leman Publications of Wheatridge, CO. I made this quilt a few years ago (see my posted quilts), then gave my copy away. Thanks!

    Hi Ramona,
So, which one of your posted quilts is the Early Bird Quilt??? I looked at all of them and couldn't see one with "Early Bird" in the name. I'd like to see if I could help, since I have SCADS of old and new quilt books and patterns - some I'd like to get rid of - and perhaps I have the pattern you're looking for?

Hello, Kwiltergirl! The pattern was used for my 'Tortured Chickens' quilt. It's a couple of dozen chickens staring at a worm. All but one of the chickens are a single applique. Thanks for checking!

Thanks for the help, SisterDi! I'm checking with them to see if I can order the pattern only, since I already have this quilt made up.

I've seen this pattern many time in quilting catalogues. Now of course I don't know which ones. I've always liked it. If you find the pattern for sale please post where. Thanks.

Here's what I know. The copyright date is 1982! The original publisher, Leman Publications, was located in Wheatridge, CO when they printed this pattern. They've now moved to Golden, CO, and are unable to help so many years later (Irene Berry, the editor of QNM personally responded to my inquiry - how nice!) The designers are Faye Anderson and Hank Parker. The pattern has been unavailable since the mid 90's. As per one of the previous postings, a shop had a kit put together, with the pattern included, but they don't have any extras to sell. All the links on the web that I've tried using so far to contact the designers directly have either failed, or gone unanswered. Yikes!

Its a site where you can "borrow" patterns. The one you are looking for is about halfway down, its says "don" for price, so Im assuming it a donation. Hope this helps, Lisa

You can find that pattern in the September 1982 Quilter's Newsletter. If no one in your guild or your library has that I can copy the 2 pages and snailmail it to you. I also was looking for it and did manage to contact the designer but she said she was not sure who owns the rights and neither does Quilter's newsletter.
                  Hope this helps, Sharon Moore

That pattern is one of my favorites! It is one of my oldest UFOs...something like 15 years or more and counting. I have all the feet appliqued but the huge applique "flock" of chickens intimidated me for a while. Just this week I was thinking of getting it out again and appliqueing a few beaks or combs! I would say you could borrow my pattern but it might be 15 more years before I finish it...

Kazmik, What a cute chicken quilt! It looks like you will need to track down the Sept. 1982 issue of Quilters Newsletter Mag. no longer in making magazines. Maybe Ebay or etsy.
