    Rolling Design Wall

I finally took time to make a double sided rolling portable design wall. It's going to be perfect in my upstairs sewing room with low walls. I will just roll it into one of the dormers or into a close by closet when it gets in the way. It would have been easy to make, except for the fact I had to piece the cardboard to get it large enough. You will need 2 pieces of heavy cardboard measuring 54" x 74". I used some old pattern cutting boards and some cardboard that was used for packaging sheet sets and taped them together with duck tape. You will need 40-60 yds. of duck tape, 2 flannel backed tablecloths 60" x 84", a double hang garment rack from The Container Store, about 24 med. binder clips, measuring and cutting tools, etc.

Place a tablecloth flannel side down on the floor. Place the cardboard on top of the vinyl side about 3" from the sides and top edge and tape with duck tape all the way around.

Fold the wider bottom edge up and tape. Fold the top and sides over leaving a 1-1/2" lip at the edge of the cardboard. I measured with a seam gauge and pinned the outer edge to the carpet before taping.

Assemble the garment rack, pulling the top bar out on both sides. Place on the floor on top of the cardboard, flannel side down. Place the 2nd cardboard on top of the garment rack, flannel side up. Clip the top edges together with binder clips. Lift upright. This step might be easier with a helper.

Clip the sides together. Now you're ready to design your blocks. Both sides can be used so you can work on 2 projects at a time. The design wall will hold 35 of these blocks which finish at 9". I think this will be my next project since I already have all of the 3" units ready. Or I might change my mind and work on my spider web quilt on the other side. Then there's the alphabet BOM that's still stuck on January. Maybe I will have to hurry and finish the first project to make room for it.
