Make your rulers non-slip
After trying all sorts of ineffective products to keep rotary cutting rulers from slipping, I've found a do-it-yourself solution that really works! I use clear silicone caulk. The kind you use for bathtubs. It comes in a tube, can be found at any hardware store, and costs 2 or 3 dollars. Squeeze a generous amount on your ruler and spread it thin, with an old credit card, to cover the whole back of your ruler. Let cure overnight, then scrape any excess from the edges. I've used it on several different brands of rulers and it hasn't damaged the marks and can be removed by scraping with your fingernail. The downside -- it smells bad until it cures, so apply it in a well ventilated area.Tags: None

I use Invisi-Grip by OmniGrid. Most quilt shops and JoAnn's should have it. It's like those old fashioned vinyl stick on window decorations (they were called Colorforms if I remember correctly)... it is clear and sticks to the bottom of rulers and templates by static. No glue, no lumps or bumps like sandpaper dots, and it it lasts a very long time. Fully repositionable at any time.
Some of my rulers have had it on the underside for coming on 10 years and it still works great! It comes in a roll about 12" wide and I just cut a rectangle or square of it that is a bit smaller than my ruler and put it on. Well worth the money!

You can get Invisi-Grip at Jo Ann's with your coupon! Online this week, they have it on sale at 40% off... regular price is only 8.99, sale is 5.39. So it's not all that pricey at all. The roll is 12" wide x 36" long. It will last a long time. Check to see if your local JoAnn's has it in stock.

I just read a review about Invisi-grip.
It seems that it would not work on Olfa rulers, or any ruler that have a "frosted back"...

I'll check at my LQS. If she doesn't have it, il will be on my list for my next trip to USA...

I found this tip on Bonnie Hunter's quilt blog to make your rulers non-slip. Use Nexcare medical tape. It is clear so you can see through it but has a sticky side to place down on the ruler and on the other side a slightly bumpy surface to prevent the ruler from slipping. It came in a tape dispenser. I purchased it in my local supermarket. I tried it and it really works.
