Bias Strips to balance Kaleidoscope colors...did it work?

Thanks in advance for your time! I just finished adding handmade bias strips to my Kaleidoscope top and want your opinions please?! Of course it's the first time I ever made bias strips but I may buy it next time(they didn't always match up) and continue to use it for Kaleidoscope quilts... I know Ricky said it (colors) will all work out but I wasn't happy with my placement so I had to 'save it' via strips..It will only hang in my studio but sure could use some expert opinions from all of you...my third quilt...second Kaleidoscope. Have a great day! Verlie

    Verlie,

I think your second Kaleidoscope quilt looks great, even before you changed it.
Since your quilts are square, you don't NEED to use bias strips for the binding, and since you say this is going to hang in your studio, it won't wear. So using binding cut on grain will work just as well.

I have always had a hard time with the binding on my quilts, and it is something I need to practice more. I don't like the look of purchased bias, they don't always have colors to match my quilts, so I would rather make it than purchase it. But I'm sure what ever you do to finish your quilt, it will look great.

Thank you for your response Diane! The bias strips are the narrow bands within the Kaleidoscope itself not the binding but I appreciate your comments. I think I was just being too critical of my colors when I got it together...so...next time I will just let the design balance itself in the end! Have a great day!

Yes, I think you were too critical of your work. I think the before and the after look great! I am also working through a Kaleidoscope quilt and I will admit I haven't exactly trusted the system as Ricky admonished us to do on his DVD and on the show. I've done more 'unsewing' on this one than I have in a long time. I am alomost finished with the border (after several trials and restarts.) the goal is to complete by the 15th so I can post with the other Kaleidoscopes.

Good luck to you as you complete this one. A great learning experience.

Thank you for your comments Lorna and good luck to you as you finish yours. I wanted to enter mine in Ricky's contest for his new book but I have never machine quilted before so doubt if I'll meet that deadline...anxious to see your Kaleidoscope! Hugs! Verlie
