    Border Questions

    http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...57356579KzwGJh

I am trying to decide the inner border of this quilt... there is no pattern.

The outer boarder is 8 inches of the focus fabric..... but I am not sure of how big to make the inner border. I have 2-3 yards of a lovely black and gold that will set it off nicely. The top is measuring roughly 63 inches x 80 inches...

The visual impact of this quilt is what is important to me but I do want the finshed quilt to be queen size.

Any suggestions? How do you plan out your borders... this is the first time I am adding any borders to my quilt.

Make the inner border a narrow one-just framing your piecing. I wouldn't go larger than 2 inches.

I took my quilt top to guild and it was suggested I try a triple middle border..... one inch black three inches gold / black then another inch black,,,, NOT sure if I am going to go with this since I can not miter my corners. I might have to come up with some kind of corner stone for the inner border.... THIS is getting more involved by the minute.... What started as a simple quilt is evolving.

Ladyrags, I think with the 8" outer border you will need at least one or two inner borders to frame the blocks. If there is a way you can put your options on a design wall and "live" with it for a couple of weeks, I think the quilt will tell you what it needs. Many times I go to my quilt books and see what has worked on similar quilts. Remember, though, there are no quilt police, and it's your quilt.

            Ladyrags,
If you want to do a mitered border, e-mail me. I can talk you through it.
